The Golvellius ending will always stand out for me since it is such an epic game and it took me weeks to finish. Golden Axe Warrior was great, but the ending didn't have the same resonance. Golvellius really went the extra mile, that ending is beautifully done with lots of story and some romanticized visuals.
Runner up would have to be Aztec Adventure. It pulls such a 180 compared to what the whole game is about, and ends up asking the viewer to look inside themselves. In terms of moments of sheer inspiration mentioned at the start of this thread, I can't really think of a game that trumps that. After I finished it I went and finished it on an emulator just so I could recall that ending at any given moment via a save file. Beautiful!

Does anyone have this? The SEGA CLASSICS COLLECTION game features polygonal updates of many of our Master System favorites - Space Harrier, Golden Axe, Fantasy Zone, Columns, Alien Syndrome, Bonanza Bros. and then a few other arcade hits like Virtua Racing and Tant R. It's fun to see these new games with updated graphics, and I have to say some of these are really great. The Space Harrier remake is, sadly, the worst, since the graphics don't look all that good and the explosions are so elaborate that they often obscure everything on screen. That's my only caveat thus far with the collection, though.
Golden Axe is simply AWESOME. Very, very fun, and it looks great. It plays just like the old one but looks totally current. There's a nice bit of story even added in, too. The magic scenes are really detailed too - they make Final Fantasy spells look weak by comparison. Fantasy Zone is a great remake too, with some new 3D bonus stages added in (a la Sonic 2) that really add to the fun. Columns plays the same as ever, but I was disappointed that there weren't many options...you can't even set the difficulty!
So from what I've played thus far, it's great for us retro gamers. I found it for $5.99 at EB Games, I'd definitely recommend it. Has anyone else played it?

Have a good one, Alex! Get any good loot, or do people usually double it up for Christmas?

The article was a nice read, but definitely inconclusive. It would have been nice if there was a bit on the rarity of some of the more sought after games. Even the peripherals like the Rapid Fire unit are undercovered. They didn't mention all the model 1 SMS variants either, like the Missile Defense. Still, a nice read, I always like the racketboy stuff. A big middle finger for censorship, though.

Yes! Nice to finally see the whole thing up. You need to get a red Fantasy Zone though, slacker. I guess a red California Games, too, although to be honest I've never seen a red one in re-release packaging before.
I must admit, though, I was a bit disappointed in not seeing you with the Rambo head band. Rest assured, when I get it I'm going 100% Stallone on the pics.

Awesome Stan, thanks. The site just feels so much more festive now. Are all those sprites from Robocod? Looks like fun.

My brother was playing SMB3 the other day, and I couldn't believe how ugly the colors were compared to everything I've been playing lately on the SMS. Forget all the other enhancements, but just with color alone the Mario franchise would have looked so much better on the Master System. But yeah, it's still apples and oranges.

Just got the second part of my package yesterday, and I shipped my whole thing out late last night. If the Canada Post estimate holds, that means at the latest it is there Dec. 25th. Cut it close, but I think we're in business. I had fun doing this, and took a few pictures. I'll send them once Christmas has passed!

Phew, that's some picture taking! I might just lay them out so you can clearly see the fronts with manuals and carts beside them, and then do the Rambo one. You'll be an internet legend if you successfully pull off the Rambo picture. It will replace your Great Baseball picture as the true emblem of SMS lore.

Stan, it should be your mission to track down the guy responsible for all things Phaser for your next interview.

Yeah, you're right, the title is a bit misleading. I've renamed it and edited the description. I've been really busy of late, and any spare time is going to DARK SAVIOR on the Saturn. After that though, methinks perhaps (finally) PHANTASY STAR.

Get ready guys! Pictures of the set of doom coming in the next two days! Should I do it with them just in their boxes or do you want to see everything lying there (not sure I can fit it all in one picture)? Do like I did in my collection pictures - one with all the boxes side by side, and then one with the boxes, then the manual on top, and finally the cart on top of both. That way you see it all. And then one of you wearing a head band holding only Rambo by itself.
