Having set out on a long journey to a complete PAL collection (which means the likes of Powerstrike 2 ) the one game I keep hearing about due to its high price is Smurfs. I know about the Lucky Dime Caper and its special boxset but luckily for my wallet I'm only going for complete cart, box and instructions to fill my shelves. So far I've spent a couple of hundred on an SMS 1 and modded SMS2 with around 36 games so far. But the one game which pops up rarely seems to be Smurfs 2 with an average of $450! So what do you guys think of it as a game? Do you think it's worth getting, just how many times has it appeared this year for sale? As for those lucky enough to have a copy do you regret buying itand have you done anything special to keep it in storage (glass case, sealed box etc?

Many gamers don´t like Smurfs 2 as a game, but I think it´s okay. You would play the game 2-3 times in your life tough. Keep in mind that it´s not a real action jump´n run, but more a jump´n run with collecting elements. You have to collect a speciific number of crystals each level, and the game has amazing graphics and level designs. It´s easy to play most of the time. You can play as a normal smurf or smurfette, the game has a password function.. and that´s everything I can remember right now^^

I think the reason most people just look at it as a collecting piece is because you can get a CIB copy for the SNES for like 15€. I've actually seen quite a few copies of Smurfs 2 for sale this year. Probably because it's easy money to make if you need it for whatever reason so if people thin out their collection stuff like that is likely to move on.

How much did they tend to sell for?

I can say that I've never owned Smurfs 2 for the SMS, and unless I by some strange twist of fate stumble upon it at a flea market for a bargain price (which is not very likely to happen), I never will. To me, Smurfs 2 is not worth getting for 450$, I'm just not that hardcore a collector, and I'm pretty sure that most people who have the game, have it for the sake of officially completing their SMS collection, as a cake topper figure of sorts.

when i bought my master everdrive for £60, i put all the sms files on it. i spent a night playing all the huge rarities, smurfs 2, masters of combat, buggy run, championship hockey even. i didnt feel like i had played 700-900 pounds worth of games at all

If you're shooting for all the games then for the sake of completeness, you need it. But by that point you're paying for it as an artefact rather than a video game. Best you can do is try it out. Have a go on an emulator and see what you reckon. A lot of the pricier games aren't actually that good so if you're unsure here, maybe try out a few other rarities. I've never spent upwards of about £80 on a old game and rarely top £30 but when I go there, I do so because I really want the game. I'm pretty much resigned to eventually smashing my record (currently, Power Strike 2) to get Battle Garegga on the Saturn, for example. It's that simple - work out what your driving force is and see where you want to commit.

Like previous posters have said, if your goal is to get a complete set and you are willing to pay the prices, go for it. But if your plan is to get your moneys worth in gametime/gameplay, it's just not worth it.

What's it to you what it is to me?!
jk.. to me its just a collector piece and im not by any means a diehard collector or gamer but with that being said if I ever found it for 200 bucks I'd probably grab it
All depends on what it means to you

I've always seen it like a trophy in the collection, but as more collectors move towards full ms sets, as snes, md etc become more unobtainable it will become more like a trophy, some of you guys that have it will have a nice windfall if you sell it, if you are looking for a life changing gaming experience, you wont find it there though

I bought it strictly for collecting reasons, my aim is to complete the PAL set so I decided to get that one out of the way early. Like other posters have said, if you want a complete collection go for it

It's an average platformer, nothing more. If you've played to death all the decent SMS platformers and looking for something new, play it, otherwise just get it for the collection like I did.
Finally getting my hands on one was great but now it just sits around in a box like the rest of my collection.

I split my full set earlier this year and decided to sell my copy, sold it in a private cash sale for £320. I've never been that bothered by it, it's an average game at best, I've beaten it twice and knew I wouldn't play it again so there wasn't much point keeping it. I personally don't see it as a particularly high priced game, I've spent 3 times that on games in the past, but as far as rare games are concerned it's at least playable, the majority of expensive stuff is total gash! My advice would be to just splash out and buy it, even though I wasn't that impressed with it as a game, I really enjoyed owning it, it's a nice thing as a full set collector to have centre pieces like that on the shelf . If you decide to throw the towel in there'll always be interest in buying a game like that so it's not really a risk either
