Seeing as there has been some interest shown in doing a forum activity of some sorts, what would you prefer we did next?
Awards "show"
Based on game categories (and other categories we can come up with that are good/interesting), we first each choose ex. five games we think deserve to be finalists in each category, then the five games with most votes get nominated to the final category. We then vote on one of these nominations to determine the best RPG, Action, Sports, innovative game etc. Basically, we create a shortlist of candidates, pick the ones with most votes as finalist and we then have a vote to determine the best game in that category.
We can have dedicated threads for each category for discussions and debates on why a certain game should get your vote.
The winners then get presented in a write-up presentation or in video form if that is possible. Under the right circumstances it could end up as an annual feature.
Hall of Fame
Done in the way of a sports Hall of Fame. We each have a ballot where we pick between 0-5 games that we think deserve to be in a SEGA 8-bit Hall of Fame. For a game to be inducted in to the Hall of Fame it has to get 75-80% (or any similar number we decide is needed to get the HoF worthy games) of the votes. Which means that if 10 people vote, then Wonder Boy III for example has to be on 8 of those peoples list to make it on the HoF. This could be a recurring yearly vote figuring as there will be open spots after the big games get inducted. Which would also mean a pre-voting debate/discussion where we argue why a certain game deserves to get your vote. The inducted game would get a lengthy write-up put on a HoF section of the webpage/forum including testimonials from people on the forum with memories, opinions or general thoughts about the game.
To make sure that we don't run out of great games and start inducting mediocre ones in a couple of years, there would be two safety precautions in place, first you can choose to vote on no games (or any other number less than 5) if you feel there are no HoF worthy games left, your blank vote would make it harder for a game to make it on the list (for example 3 out 10 blank votes would make sure no games get inducted in the HOF that year). The second precaution is a dedicated period before the HoF voting were a certain game already inducted in the HoF can be challenged to a vote of confidence. If it loses the vote/poll it would be taken down from the HoF and put back in with the rest of the games you can vote on that are not in the HoF.
Tournament
There are different ways we could do a tournament. We can do game categories similar to the awards show to matchup game vs. game to crown the best RPG, Action, Sports title etc.
Or we could do a big games tournament like we did two years ago with almost 300 games involved, we could redo that tournament with the same principles but with even more games included this time with homebrews, unreleased and region exclusives that were not included last time.
We could do a World Cup or league scenario where a group of games meet each other to rank the best game in a certain category.
Basically, the sky is the limit and if you vote for the tournament option make sure to specify what type of tournament scenario (could be an original one not mentioned above) you want to see.
