Just recently I've encountered a sega game cartridge that seems to be non-functional. Usually I've been able to get by with cleaning the contacts of the cartridge with some rubbing alchohol, but for the first time ever I've found that this hasn't been sufficient. The game in this particular case is a megadrive game, and it will occasionally boot to the "produced by or under license from Sega enterprises Ltd." screen, but from there it will go black for good.
Have you guys had any experience with non-functional cartridges and any tips on what could be done in this case to fix it? (If anything)

What's the game? There is a well-known issue with the Genesis release of Grind Stormer, because Tengen skimped on the PCB and the quality was very low - the end result is that sometimes the board fails entirely, or just gets progressively worse in freezing/crashing behaviour until it fails. Possible (or even, likely) that they did it with other games they published outside of Japan.
Incidentally I had a Sonic Chaos brand new which frequently crashed or locked up on a corrupt screen, so we took it back to the shop and got a refund. So, anacdotally at least, it's not unheard of for SMS cards to be knackered from the get-go.

The game is Soleil, and I have been trying to look for a solution based on the symptoms, but it seems to be the pcb in the cart or a component on it that's not working. I've tried cleaning the contacts again and tried hooking up the game with another megadrive console, but the result was sadly the same. Some sources suggest replacing the capacitors on the pcb, which I haven't tried yet.
