NEWSTIME After all the setbacks I finally got the AV cable for the model 1 Master System today. I tested the system before and it powered on so I wasn't too surprised when it fired up today just fine. Tested it with a round of Rainbow Islands and it works beautifully. That was after trying it with two controllers that were busted so the gods were still testing my patience . Then I put in the Dinobasher cart and luckily it fired up and played just fine. I then turned off the console and powered it back on for the checksum test. As I said before I was pretty confident that this was the real thing. After waiting for a few seconds holding down the two buttons that green screen finally came up. The code on the screen was identical to the reference from smspower. The only difference is that the code was repeated below the smiley face. Now I don't know what that's about. I'm gonna post some pictures or maybe a small video later today

Congratulations on a terrific find mate, will be hard for you to top that gem in your collection! Here's hoping there's still some more out there lol Thanks man . Yeah it's definitely the crown jewel of my collection now and I doubt I can top it in terms of awesomeness. Unless I happen to uncover the Asterix and the Great Rescue gift set I'm sure there are several more Dinobasher carts out there just waiting to be found. Since these were made for magazines to review it is fair to assume that they made around 10 or maybe even more.

Just found the time to take a picture of the checksum. The Master System isn't implemented in my setup yet so I just put it right in front of the TV for this picture. Sorry for the poor quality but holding the controller with one hand and taking the picture with the other is a bit tricky.

The repeat of the checksum is due to the VDP chip in your console having a bug which was fixed in the SMS2. Most games don't trigger this bug, though, and the Japanese version of Ys depends on it. Here's a screenshot in an emulator with that VDP version enabled:

So I can with good conscience say now that this prototype is in fact 100% legit

Would be interesting to compare the game you bought with the rom that is already available to see if it's the same stuff. Do you have a link for the auction ? Would like to save it on my archives ^^

Would like to save it on my archives ^^ I might do that eventually however I don't think they're different since these prototypes were most likely made at the same time. You can see the auction here: link
