As some of you probably I recently won an auction for a copy of Dinobasher. About 20 minutes ago it finally arrived. The seller was nice enough to send a copy of Space Harrier 3-D along with it because he couldn't get it to work properly. Looking at the pins I can see why. In any case I would at least have a free box for Space Harrier 3-D which isn't bad . Now to the prototype. After looking at it closely I am quite convinced it is real. The paper of the cover has that old smell to it. The cover is larger than it should be as it goes about 4-5 millimeters beyond the see-through part of the case (I don't know the actual term for that ). Because of that it is quite worn on the edges. You can clearly tell it was cut by hand and not printed on a modern or industrial printer. The label of the game was also clearly cut by hand and the guy who cut it probably only had five seconds to do the job. What you can't tell from the pictures is how it was glued down. Again it seems like it was done without that much care. It is only glued down on the edges and the middle of the cover kinda blobs up. The glue that was used seems to be quite strong though. The label holds on to the cartridge very nicely. However it looks like crap. The glue went through the label and messed it up at some parts. I wanted to open the cartridge but there don't seem to be any screws and I have no idea how to get it open safely. Any help with that would be appreciated. At the moment I don't have a system to test the game but the seller said it works perfectly fine and the pins don't give me any concern. Now for the pictures. If any more are wanted I can take some more It looks better on the picture but the label is quite a mess Close-Up of the cartridge. You can tell a bit better here how the middle of the label is lighter than the edges. The glue made the color on the edges darker. Close-Up of the cover. It should be big enough to see the worn edges. What you can't really see here is that the overall quality of the print is not as good as normal Master System games. Comments and help on how to open the cartridge would be appreciated

Good news! I've never opened a Codemasters cart, but I know it's quite difficult. Here's an advice on how opening it: www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=78380#78380If you manage to find a system and run the game, hold both the pad button during startup. The game will show a checksum and this may prove that the game is a repro in some cases (not all).

Well it looks like opening the cartridge could end in a very unpleasant way. I don't think I'm gonna try that . I'll test the cartridge with that method soon

Nice, good job! Hard to tell if it's a prototype or a cartmodding if you don't open the cartridge, but if you do that you will probably loose the sticker 'cause of the glue, or maybe not if you do that really carefully. Also if you can do a better scan than this one: www.smspower.org/uploads/Scans/Dinobasher-SMS-EU.jpg It's would be really cool. Cheers.

This seems to be the first example of this prototype that appeared in auction several years ago and has now changed hands.

It doesn't break the sticker to open Codemasters carts, but there is a small risk to the plastic. Assuming it's not obviously a copy, it seems to be Benne's copy as seen at www.smspower.org/Scans/Dinobasher-SMS-EU because all the dirt and damage seems the same.

Well I tried opening the cart and I won't try again. I'm just not confident enough for that . Pretty sure it's not Benne's copy. For one the auction made no mention of this being a prototype and after talking to the seller he probably also didn't know. The edges of the cover on my copy are different from Benne's copy as they are more worn. Hard to catch all the small details on the picture. You can see the difference in the cart label. Benne's copy is in the rare items gallery and the glue marks are definitely different. Again the copy I have here is a lot more messed up. So this would make three known copies known to exist? Bock with a lose cart and Benne and I with boxed copies? Or are there one or two more?

Any news on this?
As far as I can distinguish, this doesn't seem to be same with Benne's scan. Both covers have worn edges as they are sticking out of box, however there are a couple different marks.
Nobody knows how many copies are out there, but probably not many.

Unfortunately no news at this point. The meet-up with gordman has been delayed. However I'll probably receive a Model 1 Master System in a few days. Once that arrives I'll be able to test the game myself. Hopefully only a few more days

So today my Model 1 Master System bundle arrived. Got a nice deal on it and was hoping to test my Dinobasher cart first thing after getting it. So I open the package: Console? Check - Controllers? Check - AC Adapter? Check - Games? Check - AV Cable? ....... ****ing a child conceived out of wedlock It's like the universe is teasing me with this. Now I have to order a damn AV cable from eBay. Can't believe this crap

Does it work on a Model 1? Other Codemasters games don't...

Do you know which game has built in?
Codemasters games play on a later SMS1, one with either Alex Kidd or Hangon & Safari Hunt built in. Those two models with the later VDP will play everything that the SMSII does.

However the bundle came with a boxed complete Miracle World so that's probably not built in. Also with the bundle came a lose Hang On card. The model no. on the back says 3010
