So: 1 - The original "pure" version is more sms compatible? 2 - If Joel made the translation with "extended" version the musics (ducktales, for example)with pure version sound with diferences very dicernibles? 3 - ines emulator by Joel could produce the snd files?
Thank you very much for pay attention.

I was looking at the original "pure" version, not the "extended" one. There is a way to produce low-pitch notes, but it uses the noise channel so percussion interferes with it. Ultimately, the SMS sound chip can do pretty much everything the standard NES one does, except for: - Only square waves, no triangle - No DPCM - The frequency ranges and precision don't exactly match. The precision doesn't matter much, but the range can be an issue because as mentioned, the SMS's lowest note is not very low. In the video, he is replaying SND files. These are obsolete sound logs from emulators - I don't know if any current emulators can produce them. If they can, then someone could write a tool to convert them to VGM format. sounds like it can get the job done just fine

I figure this is the place to leave this: In the current issue of Tape Op, an American magazine about recording music that regularly features extensive interviews with producers from all eras and genres, there is an interview with a hip-hop producer named Justin "Just Blaze" Smith. He's worked with Jay-Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, etc. One question he was asked is what the best video game music is. Here's his response:
"Oooooh, there's not just one; but I'll give you a couple. From *my* days, Zillion II, which was only on the Sega Master System. Most people don't know this music - they don't know this game: Zillion II: The Tri-Formation. The theme music when you're on the motorcycle, to me, is the best video game music. There was an era from Rodney "Darkchild" Jenkins productions, when he was doing records like [Brandy and Monica's] "The Boy is Mine" or Whitney Houston's "If I Told You That" - the chord progression from Zillion II from '86 is the progression that Rodney was using on all those records. Yuzo Koshiro is the best video game music composer of all time. He did all of the classic Sega Genesis titles. The Revenge of Shinobi and Space Harrier II."

But I particularly like the work of 'Ippo' and the fantastic music he composed for games such as Aerial Assault, Assault City, Battle Out Run and Psychic World. It's actually not a guy but a woman: Izuho Numata (back then before her marriage Izuho Takeuchi). And i agree, the best (might say, only) thing about Aerial Assault is the music. She also made the Soundtrack for Phantasy Star IV which is really great.

I went and had a listen to "The Boy is Mine" and you can clearly hear the Zillion influence on the piano track. I think I read somewhere that the chorus on 'Together Again' by Janet Jackson is influenced by the Sonic 'Bridge Zone' music.

I was just recently having some fun farting around with emulation and play some of my favorite games with their alternate YFM audio. One game that stood out was Space Harrier 3-D. That games soundtrack is amazing using the YFM sounds. I almost regret what I did cause Space Harrier 3-D will never sound as good to me again now when I play it. I've badmouthed the YFM in the past, and I'm still not THAT pleased with it, You get slightly nicer music and RUINED sound effects. Not worth the trade off. But some games, (like Space Harrier) with so few SFX and mainly the Music carrying the game, the YFM is a definite improvement in sound. It'd be nice to have a system so so I could switch it off or on at will. If your into emulation just checkout Space Harrier 3-D's SoundTest with the YFM enabled and listen to Vakda, Squilla or WiWi Jumbo. WiWi Jumbo just sounds like a mess of bleeps and beeps normally but with the YFM it's great piece or experimental rock/techno. The other two tracks are just short loops but they are AWESOME, if I was better at music these would definitely be getting turned into full fleshed out songs. I know for sure that Vakda and Squilla are also in the Original Space Harrier, but these YFM versions are just amazing.

I think I read somewhere that the chorus on 'Together Again' by Janet Jackson is influenced by the Sonic 'Bridge Zone' music. Another example is "Accidentally Kelly Street" by Frente! which samples the Jungle Zone music from Sonic the Hedgehog. I think I read somewhere that the chorus on 'Together Again' by Janet Jackson is influenced by the Sonic 'Bridge Zone' music. Since Michael Jackson was involved with Sonic 3, i wouldn't be surprised if there's even a lot more to the whole story than we know. Michael and Janet were pretty close after all.
