This subject already discussed? If not, my vote goes to World cup ITALIA 90. The musical arrangements in matches when you're winning in group phase and when you're losing in final tournament are magnificent.

I've always liked the music in Italia 90. Shame the game isn't as good; the only thing good about it is that it has the actual groups from the 1990 WC which is more than can be said for the Mega Drive version.

Putt & Putter, somehow never gets annoying (to me at least).
R-Type is good too and Wonder Boy III

I love the music in Kenseiden. It seems to have a lot more themes than many of the other games of a similar era. In particular the haunting little ditty on the screens where you select which province to travel to next - that one always pops up in my mind from time to time.
This guy does some incredible Kenseiden covers on guitar:

I think some obvious answers would be Sonic and Out Run.
But I particularly like the work of 'Ippo' and the fantastic music he composed for games such as Aerial Assault, Assault City, Battle Out Run and Psychic World.

Yes, pretty much. Note that the first half of the video is a mod file, only the second half applies here.

Maxim, Joel Yliluoma explained:
"While the two main melody channels still cannot reproduce low pitches, the bass channel now can, because the PC speaker does not have the awkward lower limit."
If the sms don't have a "pc speaker" the things changes in case for a nes music conversion to SN76489 sms?

I was looking at the original "pure" version, not the "extended" one. There is a way to produce low-pitch notes, but it uses the noise channel so percussion interferes with it. Ultimately, the SMS sound chip can do pretty much everything the standard NES one does, except for:
- Only square waves, no triangle - No DPCM - The frequency ranges and precision don't exactly match. The precision doesn't matter much, but the range can be an issue because as mentioned, the SMS's lowest note is not very low.
In the video, he is replaying SND files. These are obsolete sound logs from emulators - I don't know if any current emulators can produce them. If they can, then someone could write a tool to convert them to VGM format.
