Here's the deal.
1. It will be organised by one person. This person will find a venue that is hopefully near a well-connected train station. This person will offer a list of dates. 2. A bunch of people will bitch about the dates because of weddings/work/etc. 3. A date will be settled upon which will not suit everyone. 4. A bunch of people will say they're coming. One of them will organise a competition. 5. A bunch of the lesser-known people will not turn up on the day.
We're stuck at #1 right now, probably due to not wanting to pay any money, especially since a venue for 7 or so people all afternoon with TVs is hard to find.

1. Surely it would be easier if more than one person was responsible for the organisation of the event 2. By more people being involved the potential of b*tching is reduced as everyone gets to have their say at planning stages 3. Some people do actually have to live a life outside of this forum and as such silly things like work and weddings inevitably have to be taken into account 4. Agreed that a date to suit everyone is unlikely to happen so lets try and please the masses rather than the individuals 5. We can organise competitions as part of planning, more people involved the more likely there are then to turn up 6. “lesser known” people are less likely to turn especially when they are referred to as such so let’s try to be more inclusive 7. Rather than continuing to write these “constructive lists” perhaps it is time to take action
Anyone who is actually interested in arranging and/or attending an event let me know and we will start putting it into action, this will actually require some form of input from people and not just moaning about how it should/could be done in comments on this forum, as that is neither constructive nor welcome in the organisation of this event.
Needless to say if you are not involved in the organisation then you can’t moan it doesn’t suit your situation.

My point is that in the past, James (rupert) organised the venue. With the loss of the Lass, the venue is the key thing. All the rest will follow easily enough, but it's good to not expect too much - the turnout won't be 5x previous levels so we have to pick a venue appropriately, especially if it's going to cost. I'd certainly be willing to pay towards it, the train fair is going to bankrupt me anyway so why not

I agree that we need to be realistic but we all need to work together or the meet won't happen. we were lucky that James did such a great job organising at the lass and with gareth we had a pub landlord that understood what we wanted to do. I am going to see if anyone is willing to help round here, I live in a town called Radcliffe in Manchester which is 10 miles north of the city centre and we don't have a train station; the nearest one is in Bolton about 4 miles away. Like I have said if anyone wants me to get involved or for me to take the lead organising then that is fine but people need to be prepared to let me know and to do their fair share as this will be a team effort
edit- if the town itself is ok for people, i may have found a venue. if anyone wants a preview then message me

Yours was going to be part of it, venue wise it was in a Ok location, but it looked a bit hard for some to get to Here's the deal. 1. It will be organised by one person. Ill get it all sorted next time way in advance, end of August is not very good for me, I know of another venue, but its technically a church and they would want money for renting the rather large room. 2. There is always bitching "Its to far" "Its not a good day" "Theres no cheap hotels" "My dog ate it" You can hold it right on peoples doorsteps and offer to have them carried to it, have all there favourite games on, free food and free money and they will still spiderpig about not being able to go due to a grey cloud in the sky 3. This is always a thing 4. As is this 5. And this

I'm one of those people that in the past has really wanted to come along, but life events have prevented me from doing so. At the moment, with a 5 month old baby, life is extremely busy. This combined with the fact that I took a sideways step and started a new job at the end of last year (main job, as I have two others), and I have an extremely busy summer work-wise as between June and August, I work each year in London twice and Aberdeen twice, so am moving about a lot. That said, again, if dates permit I would love to come along.

I have some good news. I have potentially found us a venue. It's at a place called Pub/Zoo in Manchester. It's only a short distance from the Lass O' Gowrie (where we used to hold the event). They have a snug area which they will let us use for free. I requested a Saturday in July/August time and they said it would be fine. They only have 1 TV though, so we'd have to bring our own. rupert - I know you're reasonably local, would you be able to check the place out and see if it would suit our needs? If people are happy to go with this then I'll start a poll for finding the best date.

As a mancunian I can confirm its quite central, round the corner from Oxford Road train station. I will bring a tv if I am coming, wedding and honeymoon in july though
if you are coming from victoria (which is being renovated at the moment) or picaddilly (sp?) i would advise getting a tram its about a 10 minute walk to st peters square tram stop)

Part of Superbyte is being held there this year, I have TVs if needed, one draw back is most of them are in FAB cafes stores and I cant get at them till 5pm, ive got five at home (I think to tired to move off sofa to check) Ones a 21" (old, no good with 60hz, uni remote), ones a 14" (bloody good one), another 14" (will need a remote (poundland specials work)or a proper scart lead to get it to AV), a really old 14" crt (RF only dial tuning), I also have two master systems (1 and 2 rf only on that one, pads, joysticks phasers) as well as a Everdrive and a few games, I am going to be getting some more TVs soon as a few charity shops in Hyde have some good ones and I can haggle (if a fiver each im happy)
If some one has a car/ transport I can supply whatever I have

Apparently it's a Uni hang-out and will be pretty quiet during the summer. 5 TVs + 1 already there + 1 from flatapex will be more than enough. Consoles shouldn't be a problem as we all usually bring one along. I'm sure one of our members from up North will be abkle to help you out with transport.

i'll do all i can to help but you guys knew that already, if mike needs a lift then i will do all i can to put that in place though.
going to need some help from you guys though, on 2 points: 1. there is only going to be room in my car for mike, my tv and probably 2 more tvs, if we are going to go for 7 tvs and systems then i will need someone else to help by transporting the remaining tvs, anyone up for that? i'm sure mike will inform us where abouts he is but hyde isnt far from the meet location so it isnt a huge deviation.
2. the big ask. i have voted on my availability but one thing i havent mentioned to anyone on here is that my father in law has got cancer and is being treated at the moment, when i voted on my availability i have added in when we have been told so far the operation is planned for, a week ago he suffered a stroke (another one, he had one originally 20 years ago) as i am sure you guys can appreciate, my father in law comes first and my availability works around him. worst case scenario i might need someone to give mike a lift and transport some tv's in my place, you guys all know i dont mess you round unneccesserilly (sp?) and in the same situation you would have the same priorities as me.
