Having seen this recommend in tge rg magazine article I thought it was worth a shot at the right price, anyone else played it? Also anyone know the value of a copy with a faded front part of the cover and no manual? Thanks

I've played it, it's rather good (even though I couldn't advance very far) considering there aren't that many adventure RPG games on the SMS.
I'm not the best person to give you a value seeing I'm not that active on the international eBay sites, but on the Swedish version the lowest price I've seen it go for is a bit under €10. Seeing as the one you mention is damaged with no manual I would probably guess at about €5? But I wouldn't be surprised if it went for more.

I paid £4 which is about €4.50 Mint copies are on buy it now for €40+ if I get a bargain opportunity to have something interesting then that's cool Also noticed my copy has no bar code which makes it interesting too

Not a bad price if you just want the game and don't care about CIB (which I often don't care about either).
No bar code? Could it be a "home-made" printed out cover? Not that it really matters, just interesting.

Not that it really matters, just interesting. My collection is based on items being interesting and cheap, rather than perfect. I am cynical as I know the shop it came from and the reason it is faded is because it has been in the window for possibly years. For that reason I know as much as possible it isnt a home made cover, I have 2 theories: 1. This game was in a bundle, strange choice due to it being an rpg and bundles focus on platform, sport etc 2. barcodes were stick on, a lot of stores back then were independent and all they would do is stick on a little £34.99 price tag and that was it, only places like asda and dixons used barcodes One of my copies of sonic (possibility 2) has no barcode, I think it's a bundle copy

Brilliant game. Surprised CIB ones are going for so much. This and Golden Axe Warrior are two similar but equally fantastic games. If you liked GAW, you'll like this.
I'm the opposite to you though. Has to be mint for me to purchase. Even hate it if the cartridge connectors are worn!

I am trying to buy golden axe warrior at the moment, copies are insanely expensive so I doubt I will get it, worth keeping trying though

Golvellius: Valley of Doom... sigh, childhood. This was the first Action/Adventure/RPG type game I ever played, before this it was the VCS, then it was 80's arcade games, mario, alex kidd, and sports/racing on the SMS and NES. When I was 7 my friend had an NES and his MOM had Legend of Zelda for the NES, but no one was allowed to play it but her. We could look at her notes and map she was making, not sure how good it was but to my 7 year old eyes it was amazing, anyway I'm rambling, point is- Never played anything like this until I was 9 and met another kid who had an SMS. He had a bunch of games and we were going through them but he didn't want to play this game, said he didn't like it, thought it was hard, confusing, and I later learned he never bothered to save his passwords, so yeah... I get him to lend it to me and I am enthralled that first night. I was obsessed with this game. The two biggest stumps were finding Fosbus Swamp/Meadow by the walking south from Bachular's Graveyard because the red brick road path looked like a red brick wall. I accidentally stumbled through it while trying to fight bats. The other was finding the Aqua Boots, they're on a screen with pygmy skeletons for enemies and you gotta kill quite a few to open to cave entrance, and I hate those friggers, I would avoid their screens whenever possible, and I most likely pacified myself assuming it was a screen that would have a Crystal once I defeated some boss. Darn you, I was gonna play some TMNT now I gotta playthru Golvellius again! (not really Darn you, it'll be fun! )

Haha, I don't think I've ever heard of an instance where somebodies mom bought a video game for herself that her kids couldn't play. At least not back then. Pretty awesome and a bit cruel

Nice to see the love for this game, pretty underrated if you ask me. Always loved the different perspectives throughout, like how each dungeon had a little different mechanic or look. It sure does get challenging during some of the boss fights, but you feel like a boss at the end when you can get those boots and just walk wherever the hell you want!
As an aside, the game is available for $0.99 on iPhones. I've played it quite a bit, but I'm stuck at a boss because it's really tough to move around when a big part of the screen is devoted to the touch D-pad. Still, great to have this little SMS game on the go!

It's an awesome game. I had a lot of fun completing this one, very underrated, in my opinion, and one of the few Zelda-type titles for the SMS.
