Now the WiiU is out in the US and Europe, is anyone planning on getting one? Or has indeed anyone on here bought one already? either way, what do you think of it?
Personally I'd like to try it out to see what the controller is like, but have no intention of buying one unless some super cool and original game comes out for it.

I'm really not impressed by it at all, TBH, it feels like Nintendo have released something to contend with the current gen consoles rather than a next gen power house. I just don't get the big deal about it, if I wanted a touch screen controller I'd use a vita with my PS3, that way I'd have two brilliant consoles at my disposal rather than a low memory box that'll need an external hard drive before long and half a ds. I'll wait to see what Sony and Microsoft bring to the party, bet they hammers this hyped up box of spare parts into the ground. All that aside, I can pretty much guarantee I'll end up having to buy my daughter one when all the kids games get hyped up tv adverts .

There wasnt a vote option for unsure yet, i tink it could be interesting but would like to wait until someone I know gets one then I can have a proper go (i.e. not stood in a store with strangers looking at what i'm doing).
I was reading about one of the multiplayer games (forget the name) where four players have wiimotes are in a maze type playing area trying to achieve whatever the objective is and one player has the hand held screen controler thing and can see an overhead view of the maze and where each player is and can help them by shooting enemies.. I may not have described that too well but I can imagine it making for a great multi player family game.

You know i thought of Sega as soon as i saw the advert for the Wii U, Nintendo are in danger of not learning from the mistakes Sega made in the 90`s regarding the dangers of supporting multiple systems.I understand that this year Nintendo made their first ever financial loss in their history due to the lower than expected sales of the 3DS,i am not sure creating another hardware distraction is the answer.

There aren't nearly enough games at launch to justify it. I'll be waiting to see the price come down and hopefully more games crop up. The launch lineup is pretty bloody awful. My PC's graphics card is probably good up to the other next gen consoles, so there's not really a rush.
I'm not sold on the tablet - the poor battery life and, frankly, limited functionality seems like a waste of resource to me. It seems like a beefed up Dreamcast VMU, which was handy in-game for Resident Evil health statuses but not a lot else. Here it just seems good for the motion tracker in Aliens and Dead Space-esque live inventory management. I doesn't look too fun to wield as a controller either.
Continued Wii remote support gets it for me. So much more immersive for first person shooters, rail shooters and the like. I am amazed that the Wii didn't get more in that respect - more arcade light gun shooters, previous gen games with Wii remote support (Timesplitters 2 FFS) and that. Because that's where it excelled. Microsoft's Kinect is useless and I'm not sure how well supported Move is on PS3 for "proper" games. No, letting me play FPS with the Wii remote will get me on board if they actually release anything... Black Ops 2 does not equal a console purchase.
I do, however, like that they're blatantly on board with keeping physical releases. Amidst rumours over PC-style account locking for the next Sony and Microsoft consoles, it's nice to know that Nintendo aren't going all out for full downloads - because you have no chance with even the top end model offering a pitiful 32 GB storage
Also, I hope Nintendo get off their backsides and get behind something that's not a new Mario/Zelda/Metroid though. They really need to get some new IPs out because their big franchises have been carrying them for decades.

I understand that this year Nintendo made their first ever financial loss in their history due to the lower than expected sales of the 3DS,i am not sure creating another hardware distraction is the answer. Coupled with dropping Wii support entirely. Post-Skyward Sword has seen Modern Warfare 3 and a trio of niche RPGs... and the usual shovelware. That's Nintendo's problem - trying to exist purely on the 3DS, itself something lacking games. You have to support the old console until right before release of the new one. Otherwise you end up with a year's worth of lost income, as Nintendo have now found. Now it's all on the success of the WiiU and I can see them going the way of Sega if this doesn't work out.

I'm not convinced Nintendo are up to the challenge of creating some genuinely new games. With the rabid Nintendo fans demanding new versions of Mario Kart, Zelda etc, then the inevitable updates to Wii Fit and such, I doubt they have enough developers to come up with much else.
Theres a lot of downsides to the console too, the pitiful storage space, made worse by even Nintendo now resorting to massive and essential crash preventing system and game updates. The idea that you can simply use a powered external hard drive is just ridiculous, this is supposed to be a simple games console. The controller only holds its charge for a few hours play it seems, so you'll end up playing with it plugged into the mains, which is such a step backwards and rather defies the point of a wireless controller.
Its not a cheap console, so the fact its not really any more powerful than the 360 and PS3 is a dissapointment. If I'm spending that much on a console I want to see a big difference in the games it can do, I want to be impressed. I think Nintendo are more interested in making a big profit on their hardware and their own games, that they don't much care about making a system that third party developers will really want to develop for. The new controller alone isn't enough for me, nor was it enough last time around with the Wii. It all seems a bit of a mess controller wise, you have the new tablet, the classic controller, the wii remote, wii motion+ remote all supported. Perhaps they would have been better off saving the improved Wii mote for the WiiU and including one in the box too, rather than releasing it for the Wii where developers couldn't really support it as they couldn't bank on people owning it.
Since the new controller is such a departure from the Wii mote and its games make you fit idea, that it makes me wonder why its even called a Wii U, and more importantly why its backwards compatible (so limiting it to have updated Gamecube hardware again). For that matter I don't know why the original Wii was Gamecube compatible, again limiting its architecture to achieve it.

I'm not particularly excited by it. In 6-12 months time if I see some great games being released for it and a small price drop I might be swayed, but for now I'm paying very little attention to it.
I have an original Wii which aside from a few months initial use has sat and collected dust for a number of years. I actually recently packed it up in its box and have tucked it away in storage.
Nintendo don't seem to have a lot to offer me to be honest. I'm over all their rehashed franchised games (Mario, Zelda etc) and it seems aside from a small handful of simple and fun games nothing mind blowing and new is ever released by them.

Hey is this true? The Deluxe/Premium seems to be priced at around £320, which is roughly $515. And many of the games are around £50, or $81. I guess I wouldn't be interested at that price either. Thats correct, the price is grossly more expensive over here even when you factor in tax and exchange rates (I actually did a youtube video on that subject actually)

Its because Nintendo as a company has put out statements about how they never release a game untill its done etc. and now all of a sudden they are just as bad as the worst offenders and releasing patches for their games that you need to stop them from crashing. Its one thing they did well to avoid with the Wii, so its a shame to see this backwards step from Nintendo too. Its all the silly flaws they could have avoided like that, which as a whole make the console less appealing.

lol No idea why people are so focused on that, the first download took me 20-30 minutes and the 2nd one was like 15 minutes. I can honestly say PS3 is much worse when it comes to downloading, updates and installs. But the WiiU is still pretty horrible in that department, especially compared to the Xbox 360 that updates rather fast (even with my horrible slow internet connection) and well, the WiiU is a new system so you should expect more speed and faster times. The Video Ashens made on the WiiU really shows most of the flaws: The horrible loading times for every menu and even quitting a game (why does it take 25 seconds to end a game and for the menu to show up?), the Nintendo shop is horrible and the prices are a complete rip-off, some of the features like TVii didn't even work at launch...and instantly releasing a over 1 gigabyte big update for the system shows that something went wrong. What's worse it people with bad internet connection have to wait a long long time and when they have the 8 gb version their hard drive will already be filled for a good chunk. And why only 8 gigabyte? Just so they can rip-off these people later by selling bigger hard drives? What a nice company... And what do people who don't even have a internet connection? They are stuck with bad software? Great... The System itself...it's slow, it's extremely underpowered, perfectly shown by the worst versions of Assassins Creed 3 and Batman - Arkham City and the gamepad or whatever we wanna name that abomination is just another gimmick that will be boring after 5 months, showing some flaws (the trigger buttons are kinda small and badly placed) And there are lots of reports of hardware flaws: HDMI output makes problems, Wi-Fi problems.. No doubt the WiiU will be selling a lot of units as it's Nintendo and the Wii was the best-selling system of the last generation but after the 3DS it's the second system in a row from Nintendo that looks really bad and completely uninteresting (Because what can we expect? The same games every other system gets (and those versions will be better, at least the PC Versions) and the usual 5000 sequels to the same old, boring, tired Nintendo franchises and the hyped ZombiU turned out to be a pretty mediocre game.
