To me, the N64 was a big flop. Everything related to the console was just too expensive. Here in Brazil, a game would cost almost as much as a salary at the time. Most games weren't worth the price, anyways, The rule at the time was to make everything in 3D, so there were all those pointless games, like Castlevania, all in 3D. Everyone said that Perfect Dark and Goldeneye were great games, even though they barely work on the console, while Doom 64 was always put aside due to it not using 3D models for the monsters orand weapons and etc. The controller was another problem; it was weird and wouldn't suit some games, mainly fighters, while the analog stick was a little too frail for it's own good.
There were great games, like Banjo, Perfect Dark [fully playable on the Xbox Live Arcade port], Mario 64, etc, but by then, Nintendo had seen better days.
