I’m surprised these aren’t as negative as some of their podcasts were.

They did mention Chris Kohler as being a negative Nintendon fanboy in one of the videos, but then also said something about Sega fans being too sensitive about the negatively.

This is neither here nor there, but that always fascinates me. Because I know meu2 loves the N64 as well (if I'm not mistaken, and I'm sure he will correct me, it's his personal favourite console) and for the life of me, I just can't understand what was so great about the N64? For me, it's the least favourite Nintendo console (at least among the ones I've played as I can't claim it's worse than the Virtual Boy ). Maybe it's just as simple as that I chose Playstation insted of a N64 (or a Saturn for that matter) back in the day and never really played the N64 until much later. So I just see a lot of negatives (early 3D, the controller that I HATE with a passion etc.) instead of the positives I might have seen back in the day. Because the only real positive I can say about the N64 is a pretty good game library considering Nintendo franchise games. BUT even on that point, I would still rank it the lowest among the Nintendo consoles when it comes to game libraries. Yes, I know I'm biased and I judge the N64 with modern eyes seeing as I didn't really play it back in the day. But it still fascinates me every time I hear somebody praise the N64 or in this case claim Nintendo Jumped The Shark after it. When I think quite the opposite

I agree that classic nintendo died after the N64. The number of quality games is incredible. Most of the gems were from Nintendo itself, but let's not forget Rare's Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Visually and gameplay-wise more impressive than anything seen on the PSX back then. Smash Brothers, mario tennis, F-zero X, Mario kart 64, Ocarina of Time,... fantastic games. What nintendo wanted to do with the gamecube is still not clear to me. Revamped versions of N64 classics with some compilations and shovelware thrown in. there were some great efforts (Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion,...) but it couldn't hold a candle to the PS2 library. And then we have the Wii. Wii sports (resort) is probably the only game worth owning Although I am enjoying Skyward Sword right now. The virtual console was also a great idea. The company is probably more alive than ever right now. But the Nintendo so many fanboys and gamers loved is pretty much gone.

When I think quite the opposite That’s correct; the N64 is my favourite console. Sacrilege I know I think the N64 is one of those love/hate things. It was the first machine that I got when it was still reasonably new and I had it during my formative teenage years, which probably explains why I have such affinity towards it. I agree with theycallmeknuckles assessment of the system; fantastic games that were some of the standout titles of its generation despite the small library. Sadly I also feel that Nintendo changed after the N64, though I do still enjoy a lot of their content.

I just can't understand what was so great about the N64? ... Maybe it's just as simple as that I chose Playstation insted of a N64 I think it is that simple, you must have been a PS1 fanboy :-P For the record, I LOVE THE N64. It's probably my second most favourite console after the SMS.

Well, I did have arguments with a school mate over which was better Playstation or N64 back in the day. So I guess I was a fanboy of sorts. Though we could both agree on the common ground that the PC was better than both. Because of Internet Porn of course

I think it is that simple, you must have been a PS1 fanboy :-P And you're a N64 Fanboy Personally, the N64 was a badly constructed (64K Texture Cache), outdated (Cartridge?) console without any merits, thanks to those flaws, the games looked horrible and weren't comparable to the Playstation - or even the Saturn. Because of that, developers never gave a faeces about it. There are maybe 10 great games on the console (and about 5 completely overrated games like Conker's Bad Fur Day, Mischief Makers and Super Mario 64) And the Game Pad is in my top 5 worst controllers ever, only topped by the Intellivision crap, the Gamecube Gamepad and the Atari 5200 abomination

Well, I did have arguments with a school mate over which was better Playstation or N64 back in the day. So I guess I was a fanboy of sorts. I've had many an argument on the school playground about which was better. The most common reason I got given as to why the PS1 was better, was it's much bigger library of games. I said it then and I still maintain to this day that it doesn't matter, as most of the games were crap. We meet again 10 great games? Super Mario 64 overrated? Come on, that's just ridiculous. The only good game for the Playstation that I can think of is FF7, and I know how much you like that I've always liked the pad and thought it was very innovative. I'm pretty sure it was the first to have an analogue stick, slot for a memory card and a rumble feature (with the pak of course). I still prefer it's analogue stick over the over-sized Xbox360 and PS3 ones.

You might not like it, but it is a milestone in gaming. and great fun... not that that matters apparently as it is created on a 'badly constructed machine without any merits'. the N64 had a library of around 250 games, the PSX had nearly 1500. Piles and piles of shovelware-dung and a few decent games like FF7, Metal Gear and Tekken 3.

Without Goldeneye there would be no N64 for me, its the reason I played the console originally, then bought one myself. The controller really makes sense with that game. I ended up buying a bunch of other N64 games of course, but none of them really drew me in that much, so I mostly ended up playing Goldeneye over and over instead. The Dreamcast was the winner of that generation for me (most people count it in with the PS2/Cube/Xbox era, but it was already over by then). I think the Gamecube is better than the N64, but mainly for the non-nintendo games, I love Beach Spikers, Viewtiful Joe, Resi 4, Fzero GX etc, there's just more of the sort of games I like on it.
