I've been picking up a few games for the Megadrive/Genesis lately some want some recommendations for games to keep an eye out for.
I find platformers and shooters are the best fun for my taste. I've already got a few favourites like Ghouls n Ghosts, Zombies, Gunstar Heroes etc. Any suggestions similar to these or any good horror themed stuff would be great! Cheers guys!

Ghostbusters is a great platformer.
Truxton is a great vertical shooter.

Ghostbusters is a great platformer. Truxton is a great vertical shooter. I second both of those games. I've been playing the former since I was ten and still have a lot of fun with it. I highly recommend Kid Chameleon. See the thread I started on the game for more info. Other games I recommend: Alien 3 Desert Strike Jungle Strike Urban Strike The Revenge of Shinobi Castle of Illusion World of Illusion Splatterhouse 2 Aladdin Cool Spot Bubsy: Close Encounters of the Furred Kind

Horizontal scrolling: Thunder Force II, III and most especially IV (far and away the best of the series) Air Buster Sagaia Zero Wing (there's more to it than "All your base are belong to us") Eliminate Down (JP only, very expensive but very good) Gleylancer (JP only, not quite as expensive as Eliminate Down)
Vertically scrolling: Fire Shark Twin Cobra (US and JP only) Mega SWIV
Truxton is ridiculous. If you can handle the heavy memorising (because stuff will regularly smash you from behind without warning), some really cheap patterns and taking forever to power up, then knock yourself out with this one.
Twin Hawk is another Toaplan (same people who did Truxton, Fire Shark, Zero Wing and Twin Cobra) but it's a bit on the samey side. As is Hellfire, although Hellfire is more frustrating.
Ranger X is excellent and similar to Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken on the SNES.
I second the calls for the Strike series. Also, Streets of Rage 2 is a must.

I think it was only released in Japan and North America, but MUSHA is probably the best shooter on the system by far.

Nobody has mentioned Castlevania Bloodlines (New Generation is the european censored version of it) so far? Definitely a Must-Have on the Mega Drive. As for more horror stuff: Haunting: Starring Polterguy. It's Horror-Comedy and a fun game, get's a bit repetitive but scaring people is fun In the same light-hearted way: Decap Attack is a pretty fun game. Chakan: The Forever Man has a horror theme, but it's also quite difficult. Splatterhouse 3 has a bit more advanced Gameplay than the previous 2, with some Adventure elements. It's really great. The Immortal - Isometric Action-Adventure with a Medival-Horror Theme. Doom Troopers - A Dark sidescrolling Action game, bloody...basically Splatter-Horror in a Sci-Fi setting. You will find pure Horror in Dark Castle, it will shock you to death with it's awful gameplay (Just kidding, don't spend any money at that crap) And for Shoot 'em Ups, most have been mentioned, but it will also mention Steel Empire (or Empire of Steel). It's a Shoot 'em Up with an interesting setting. And Wings of Wor (Gynoug) may be the closest you get on the Mega Drive in terms of Shoot 'em Up with Horror setting. If you have a Sega CD: Mansion of Hidden Souls is also recommended.

Some good platformers --- Vectorman 1 & 2 Rocket Knight Adventures Ristar Toejam and Earl: Panic on Funkatron Splatterhouse 2 Earthworm Jim (the special edition version for megaCD is excellent) Dynamite Headdy Alysia Dragoon James Pond 3 Operation Starfish B.O.B ChikiChiki Boys Shooters Biohazard Battle (Crying) Hellfire Gynoug Arrow Flash Zero Tolerance Bloodshot Subterrania the Thunderforce games theres probably a whole load more shooters i cant think of, the Mega CD is a good choice for shooters i think, as bad as it sounds, some of those FMV games are actually quite a laugh

Predator 2 is another fun game, it's a top-down 3rd person styled shooter. It kind of fits into both of your desired categories, horror and shooting.
