I was wondering if there are any release lists for Tec Toy sms games, specifically ones which state what games are plastic box and which ones are cardboard box releases. I've avoided buying any card box Tectoy games, and I'm interested in how many plastic cased games there are in total.

We've been building one for the last 3 years over at Sega-Brasil (you must register to access that section of the forums). Aside from eventual minor variations, the list is pretty much complete (although our level of "variation" for now goes as far as letters on the cover, numbers of folds on cardboard boxes and presence/absence of barcodes, mainly). The games are divided onto cardboard, white plastic big squares, white plastic small squares, white/blue plastic and blue plastic sections.

Thanks for that. So theres 208 plastic case tectoy games, a bit less than I was expecting - but then a whole lot I don't have yet either

Is that with or without variations? Wikipedia is lacking 77 games

I myself have also avoided cardboard box games so far. Although it wasn't my plan at first, I believe I'll have to go with their foreign versions; now that PayPal has finally come to Brazil, it ought to be easier for me to acquire them (especially since some of them are relatively common for you, like After Burner, Double Dragon or Wonder Boy). I have found a few plastic box versions of some originally-thought-to-be-cardboard-box-only games over the years but unfortunately it's not that fruitful a hunt.

You can find this list on Rupert's own forum. The list originally comes from Sega Brazil. I think this is the most complete tectoy release games you can find but this list doesn t not include cover variations

I was looking for a thread about TecToy but the search option doesn't really work for me :s
Either way, I have a problem. Recently I bought a set of sealed games here (Simpsons, Transbot, Gangs fighter and Lion King) and it got me wondering.
Here is what I find weird:
- The four seals looked different - In all 4 games there was a Greek paper (I can't read it) - No folders/list of TecToy companies except for The Simpsons (which was oddly damaged) - Covers seem different
About the covers, there are three that have been printed on normal paper and one on glossy, normal PAL cover paper. The prints look very good and if I wouldn't have taken them out after a tip from a member here on the 9lives forum, I would've never thought it was a fake.
Any ideas on this? Theories?
I know that seals, boxes and cart labels are low quality because that is how TecToy works, but how can we tell them from fakes?? I sure can't...

In early 90s some stores in Greece were selling Tec-Toy games, of course only the non-exclusive games... But very soon came MegaDrive and many of them didn't got sold, staying in warehouse of some small stores sometimes until today... I know many people (at a greek retro forum) who aren't SMS-collectors but they have a few Tec-Toy games, which had been bought from local stores back in SMS years... Rarely, forgotten sealed games being found by SMS-collectors after asking at local stores...
Personally, I've never bought any Tec-Toy games from Greece and neither have found any forgotten at stores (normally because I wasn't searching enough)... So, I don't know if they are different from the originals...
As far as I know, I don't think they had been imported by the official Sega greek agent "Zegetron". I think they had been imported by other unofficial company... I suppose they were opening the games to add greek instructions and sealing them again... I don't have a lot of info, because I've never been concerned about them...
You may scan or take a photo of the greek paper to tell you what it's saying if you want... Don't hesitate for everything...
Edit: I just remembered that I've seen also many Tec-Toy SMSII consoles (mostly the SMS 3 Compact with Sonic - blue box) in the hands of non-collectors, which had been bought back in early 90s at local stores...

Game Gear TecToy releases made their way into some UK Electronics Boutique/Game stores around 2000/2002. I enquired in Norwich and Cambridge stores as to whether they had any SMS ones but apparently they were just random GG stock they received from their suppliers.

Nice to know!
What about the quality of the inserts? I'm very suspicious now and will probably hold back from purchasing any more games because I have my doubts about the origin of some games. :s

That's cool. I remember around 2002/2003 there was a ton of new old stock Lynx, Jaguar, and US Game Gear stuff (I didn't see anything I didn't recognise as US GG) appeared in GAME stores - rumour was they found a warehouse full of the stuff.
