Very surprised there isn't a thread here already! I am a big "soccer whore" I love it every 4 years and watch every game. In Oz that entailed taping the 3am game, waking at 5am, watching the the 5am game and 7am game, going to school/uni then watching the 3am game I taped! Usually with my Dad or in 2006 my housemate... and lots of strong coffee. This time around it is all in the day time/evening which has been freaking me out a bit. No Daddy or coffee feels a bit weird! Managed to get it streamed on my work laptop so I can watch the games as I teach the kids science (www.tvcatchup.com = awesome). Obviously I HAVE to support Australia and New Zealand. I then fall back onto Germany. I love a good underdog battle so in any random game I will pick a side based on that too.... Also gives me a bit of banter with the lads in the playground which is fun too. Anyone else's picks/memories/comments?

I try to watch every game usually, but this time I'm sadly employed. I could get away with extended time in the pub or streaming while I was doing my PhD - after all it was summer. Before that it's been holiday time at uni and school before then anyway so I've caught pretty much every game... except the 3rd round of group games where only one gets shown - until recently where digital generally lets you choose (yay!). It's weird this year though, because I can only see the odd bits while at work and generally get home in time for the last 20 minutes of the second game, meaning I can usually only get one full game a day. It feels wrong... but not as wrong as being up and drinking at 7am like in 2002!! Perhaps obviously I support England. As much as one can cope with doing so anyway! I usually pick on a couple of unfacied sides with solid players to follow - like Croatia in '98 and this year it's Chile. I do love Germany though, so I usually roll onto supporting them whenever they're playing (except against us)... but I generally keep it quiet because for some mental reason mentioning Germany does have an unfortunate habit of bringing out the racist in people It'd been a really dull first round up until Germany stepped up and decided to play (that must've been hard to watch as an Aussie!)... then Chile followed suit and suddenly it's got much better (generally). Spain beaten? France on the brink of going out already? Awesome, it's starting to make up for those dire first few days! Highlights so far? I actually went a bit over the top happy when North Korea scored against Brazil. Watching Özil dictate play in Germany's first match was a genuine delight - just to see an old fashioned playmaker again. Finally, the build-up to Uruguay's third last night - superb long pass from Forlan, brilliant control from Suarez to bring it down and then play a dinked pass into the box. Beautiful.
