I was just scanning through the Hardware database when I came across this entry: www.smstributes.co.uk/gethwinfo.asp?hardwareid=107Is this true? An SMSII with no built in games? I must have had 60 or 70 SMSII's pass through my hands and they've always had either Sonic or AKIMW built in. If this is true then this console variant is probably one of the rarest, it also means I'm going to have to track one down which I don't think is going to be an easy task...

Thats news to me, who write that entry? and supplied the photo? I don't see any reason why they would release a smsII with no game built in. After all Miracle World had already been built into the sms1, and wasn't being sold on cart anymore. And even the SMS1 with just the loading screen still has Snail Maze on it.

I've never even seen that box before, not without the triangular AKIMW included sticker in the top left corner anyway. It might sound daft, but I hope this DOESN'T exist, it's going to be a nightmare to track one down if it does .

I seem to remember adding that and someone gave me the information about it, but I can't remember for the life of me who.

I've got a feeling it might be true. It must be difficult being a collector that has to own one of everything .Maybe though the inbuilt game chip became damaged (and so the inbuilt game didnt work) and so someone thought there was no inbuilt game in their sms??

The question has to be, what does it do if there's no game plugged in? Every other SMS does *something*, even if it's just the Snail Maze, because that something also includes the region locking and checking the cart connection is good.

It's true. i recently bought a ms1 on ebay and when i turn it on without a game a screen comes up giving you instructions on how to insert a game and get it to run. If you then press up and button 1 (off the top of my head) that snail maze game runs. unless im missing something (do you need to press something to get the inbuilt game to run??) then yeah it has no inbuilt game. Im happy to send you guys some pics and/or info on the serial number etc. if it will help out in anyway. Interestingly the system also came with controllers that have little joystick things sticking up vertically from the middle of the controller (they are otherwise identical to 'normal' controllers and are definitely official sega controllers). I haven't controllers like this before, anyone have an idea as to how rare this is?

Its not that rare in a master system 1 i believe but this thread is about the master system 2 having no games built in.

I don't run across too many SMSII's but all I've seen had Alex Kidd or Sonic. Then again, US sales of model 2 were almost nill
