So I am getting ready to list about 40 SMS auctions on eBay and I was testing the Power Base I am putting up. The game I am including with it is Great Football. I have never really played this game before so I was spending more time with it than the standard testing motive of "up down left right button 1 button 2" to make sure the controllers work. Then I noticed that right after I started the game against the CPU the score was already CPU 35 me 0. I was like "what the hell?" then I noticed it was already the 4th quarter. I figured I had accidentally chosen some kind of "comeback and beat the clock" mode so I reset the game and tried again. Same thing. I re-seated the cartridge and tried again. Still the same. I can't imagine that you can't play a full 1 player game so this cart must be stuck in "comeback" mode.
There are some interesting things about this mode. First of all 2-player mode works normally. Secondly the amount you need to comeback is based on which teams you pick. The lowest score the CPU has had was 12 and the highest was 35. Strangely, it seems the score is also indicative of how good the CPU team is. When playing against the team that only has 12 points it is much harder to score than against the team with 35. Additionally, if you are playing a team who's score is a multiple of 7 then your touchdowns will be worth 7. Normally touchdowns are worth 6. In this scenario it doesn't matter if you make the extra point or the two point conversion, you will always get 7. If you are getting 6 points for your touchdowns, you will only get 1 point for a 2-point conversion. You still get the standard 1 point for making an extra point.
Weird stuff. I am still selling this setup anyway, but with a disclaimer. The only other thing I noticed about this game is that the ref only holds up one arm instead of two when you score a touchdown. D'oh! The audio when the game says "touchdown" sounds good though. Anyone else ever have a cart doing strange things like this?

Your game is normal. When playing the CPU you are on offense the whole time and always start off losing. That is how the game is as ridiculous as it may be. Not sure why they made it that way especially because they two-player is normal. Maybe they had some difficulty/programming issues?? It probably wouldn't of helped the game out any though, it is terrible.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Seems to me this football game is probably the worst of the "Great" sports games. I've never played Great Soccer, Ice Hockey or Volleyball but how much lamer could it get? That might be a bad question to ask considering this indiscretion. Well at least I don't have to sell it with a disclaimer.

Yeah, that's the major problem with it. The gameplay isn't so bad, but that's probably the stupidest idea in video game history when it comes to football titles. I really don't know why they did it. You can never lose, either, it just keeps going until you reach that score. Very strange. It's a mystery that needs solved. I'd have to stick with Great Ice Hockey being the worst, however. That game is just totally unplayable in every respect.

Yeah, Great Ice Hockey is basically unplayable, but honestly, I've had more fun with it than any of the other "Great" titles. Using the Sports Pad and just having to reef on the trackball just to get your guy to move is a crazy workout. It's pretty comical just how much you have to do for such little results. I'll never know what they were thinking there. Great Volleyball is actually pretty good.

Yeah Great Football is crap.
I liked Great Ice Hockey when it first came out. I remember beating Poland 40-0 one day and then not being able to play for a few days afterward because my hand hurt so bad. I tried it again the other day to see if I still liked it... I don't.
I still like Great Baseball though.

The first time I played I was down 35 - 0 and I only made it back to 28. When the time was over the game ended and I lost. How can you not lose? Also what's up with touchdowns sometimes being worth 6 and sometimes being worth 7?

I've never really played any of the 'Great' games for longer than about 2 minutes. Mainly because I just don't like sports video games of any form. I don't actually mind Speedball as it's got power ups and such to hold my interest and Putt and Putter I class as more of a puzzle game.
Even current gen sports games bore me. I don't even think it's because I don't watch much sport, as I do watch football (soccer) but have no interest in playing it on my computer (apart from Fantasy Football).

Great Baseball is a fun game but that might be because I played it when I was little. The others I own but rarely play.

Seriously man, I haven't even got a goal in it and I've played at least 4 games. I work up a sweat every time though - consider it the precursor to Wii Fit. ;D

If I remember correctly you go just past the goal line on the bottom of the screen (close to the goal) and pass up and to the left through or behind the goalie and then your left wing has an empty net to shoot at.
