Could the Master System handle these Games?? The NES had that unlicensed Wolfenstein clone, and it run pretty well considering it was Moses and a slingshot. The Master System should by comparison have no problem. Doom would definitely be pushing it, though.

Doom would definitely be pushing it, though. That was the SNES, not the NES. The game you're thinking of is Noah's Arc 3D. Although, in an odd coincidence, I did find a NES FPS engine a few days ago - there's a video on YouTube. I can't remember the details, but it impressed me a lot. It didn't look good (the walls were solid blue), but it was the smoothness of it all. Having said that, it may not have been running on a stock NES. Search YouTube for "nes wolfenstein", or something. As for the SMS handling an FPS: no. At least not one which handles full 360 degrees of rotation, like Wolfenstein and Doom. The SMS has a tile-based graphical system, which means doing raster graphics is tricky (but not impossible). Funnily enough, I have been "working towards" prototyping an FPS game engine on the SMS since late last year. A wire-frame FPS, at least - not solid 3D. Progress has been slow due to the lack of time. Someone (I believe it was haroldoop) did write an FPS engine for the SMS about a year ago. If I recall correctly, it moved in "steps", but it was still pretty cool. He posted it over on SMS Power!, if anyone's interested.

I stand corrected. Aypok is wise. It's that tile system on the SMS that makes Space Harrier a beast to try and play, so in retrospect, yes, an FPS would be very tough, tougher even than the NES, probably.

Well there's FaceBall 2000 on the GameGear, which of course is rather crap and run in a small screen: smspower.org/db/fcball2k.shtmlGameBoy had 'X' which although not stricly a FPS is rather impressive. (and its programmer is sitting next to me now .
