A long time ago I had the idea to create a remake of Alex Kidd in Miracle World - I believe I mentioned it here years ago - but then the project sort of fell by the wayside and all that was born of it was a little bit of concept art.
Lately I've been replaying it and decided I'd try and kickstart the thing.
What I want to know is - what needs adding/removing/changing?
Is there anything in Alex Kidd that you particularly dislike? Anything that would improve the gaming experience?
The main things I'm planning on having are
- Redrawn graphics - Remixed soundtrack - Expanded levels - Save feature
But these are obvious. What I need are the nitty-gritty things.
Any suggestions? What would make an already great game greater?

Any suggestions? What would make an already great game greater? Continues. I'd also like the controls to be switched to adhere to the SMS II button layout rather than the original. Just less awkward that way. If you could tighten the control, too, so it doesn't play so loose on land, then that would be aces.

It does if you have over 400 currency. I think you hold UP and press button 2 eight times on the game over screen.
I'm not sure about adjusting the loose control - do you mean the momentum? A lot of the challenges are built around the momentum, you see.
And the controls would be customisable.

I personally would NOT want to see the graphics changed a whole lot
But that depends I guess, you havent really told us if you are just improving a little on the original game, or making a completely new game using the main elements from Miracle World

I may have a go at an Alex kidd in Miracle World first level re-make on Little Big Planet. Trouble is I doubt i could publish it as they are clamping down on re-makes.
I spent all yesterday evening playing with the level editor and it's pretty amazing what you can do, I think you could remake pretty much any game on it!

Pardon my ignorance but if this were to happen would it be on an emulator type thing or can you actually get it all on to a cartridge somehow? Hope this make sense!!!

It'd be a PC remake.
I'll try to make the updated graphics optional. I was thinking of using a more pastil-y pallette with shading.

What will you make it in? I have some suggestions (keep in mind it's been a while since I played the game): Remove the janken matches when meeting bosses. Does anyone actually like those? If you decide to keep them, make them less important, don't have alex die when losing. speaking of bosses, how about some more mini-bosses like the bull or squid? And try to make new patterns for the existing ones, they're rather primitive. Make the controls less floaty, at least when not running. Have a look at Mega Man 3 for an example of good controls. Add more secret routes like the one under the squid. Add the items from enchanted castle and/or create some new ones, maybe a submarine or diving suit (lost stars)? More varied locals. Desert and ice levels are lacking obviously. Be creative More puzzles like the one at the end of the game. Maybe incorporate some switches, elevators and such. Check out Land of Illusion. Nothing that completely breaks the pacing though.

I think this is actually a great idea and much better than trying to remake an already fantastic game. 'Alex Kidd in the Land Beyond the Order Commonly Observed'

I suppose I could make a new'un with the same engine. I'm focused on a remake right now, though. I like some of these ideas (varied locales, secret routes etc.) but changing the floaty controls will make it a totally different feel - and the feel of the AK games is one I want to preserve.

Basically, yeah that's what I'm sayng. And that title is excellent But for a remake, I don't know, maybe add a time attack and a hardcore mode for veterans?
