So my main man schlingel hooked me up with his Pro Action Replay, and it just arrived in the mail yesterday. I still, if at all possible, play my games on the SMS only, since the emulator makes everything too easy and tempting. There are some games, though, like SPACE HARRIER, that just demand some sort of lives hack to get through.
So anyway, I got the unit, hooked it up, and with a bit of coaching from rupert, SPACE HARRIER worked without a hitch on my NTSC setup. I went to try Y'S, but the system glitched up. Whatever. I tried it on GOLDEN AXE...same thing. After a last ditch effort with a few PAL games, it become pretty clear that this PAR just doesn't much like my NTSC setup. So I've got to ask, is there any rhyme or reason to which games actually work on NTSC with the Pro Action Replay? Does it differ from system to system, cartridge to cartridge, etc.? I noticed my other copy of SPACE HARRIER worked without a hitch either, so I'm thinking there must be some explination.
I'm hoping some people who have tried the PAR on their NTSC setups could give me some help. So far I've tried the unit on both my Japanese SMS and my American Genesis with Power Base Converter, and both have responded the same.
Another small question, too: If you use the PAR with a game with battery backup, can you then save your progress with cheats enabled and recall that same file with the cheats when the game is just connected without the PAR? Like in Y'S, if you get the long sword with the code, can you save it and then start the game up without the PAR activated and still have the long sword? I tried to do this, but again none of the battery save games would work on my system.
Any help would be appreciated.
