Cheers guys! Its great for a place to visit... its like Japan only cheaper. awesome nightlife if you know the right places.... Traditional korean nightlife sucks balls... It is just sitting around a table in a resteraunt bar. No clubbing or crazy pub antics. But around the university districts and foreigner areas ... the nightlife is awesome.. Beer is the equvalent of around £1 a pint in bars... and a bit more expensive in clubs... like £1.50 to £2. Women... well I can honestly say I have never seen so many beautiful women in one place. go into a club and like 90% of the women are smoking hot.. Heaven! Culture.. Its a nice culture and I enjoy it except for a couple of really annoying things i hate which i wont go into because ill rant for hours. Sightseeing... Theres some fantastic natural beauty around... mountains, sandy beaches and islands. Then you have the classic Asian palaces and villages with the curvey roofs ^^ hahah I enjoy being different... in my area where I live im the only white guy... so everyone knows who i am. i get crowds of children chaseing me saying "hi, my name is ____ how are you? "over and over again. Kinda cute really. love asians. lol

Looks like you had a great time.
I'm trying to talk the missus into somewhere like Korea or Japan for our next holiday but she's having none of it. She'd rather get on a plane for a couple of hours and sit on a beach in Spain, which is nice, but i'd really love to go somewhere i bit more exotic for a change.

Hi Sam
I was planning to visit Japan again in the next couple of months but baulk at the high accommodation costs. Is Korea as good then? You say it's cheaper but is it easy to get around and is there much to see? I can get by in Japan with the language so that a plus but imagine Korea to be a bit of a nightmare. I have to say I thought China would be similar to Japan but it really wasn't my cup of tea so need to make the right choice.
Cheers

Wow, what have you got to do to get a job somewhere like that? Also where exactly is "home"? Hey Teaching English is the way to go if you want to work / live for a while in Asia. Its really fun too.. Ive been doing it for 6 months. Out of all the foreigners in Korea.... I'd say about 95% are either English teachers or US military. Aaaaand home is England ^^ (Sussex)

However i'd still say Japan is alot better fun in general. As for getting around... Seoul metro is probably one of the best subway systems in the world.. Clean, easy and reliable. Way better than New York and London, and it spans the whole of the capital and various other towns and cities surrounding. As for things to see... it all depends on you as an individual. What sort of things do you like doing? One of my best (and worst) experiences was my day trip to North Korea... hahaha scary one. As for the language barrier... most younger generation (under 30s) Koreans have some English skills so communication usually isnt that difficult. Older people very rarely speak English.

Thanks for the info Sam. Korea sounds pretty good. Not really sure what I want to see. I love Japan and its urban areas but also enjoy Kyoto and the old Japanese architecture and history. I kind of hope Korea would be the same and could do a bit of Japan and then travel to Korea.
How cheap is Korea? Do you know how much accommodation would be?
I'm now undecided whether to go to Asia or Sin City so your input is much appreciated.
