Just checking to see everyone's ideas for what to do after the games are exhausted. This will still be SOME TIME in the future, but I wanted to start gathering ideas now. One, already stated by several people, would be to try to beat each others' top scores or what not on different games.

Maybe a challenge. Me and my mate used to see how fast we could get through the first couple of stages of sonic on the mega drive. Maybe people could set similar challenges? Surely we wont run out of games for ages.

Actually, just last week we started something like this at the NES Files forums. It seems to be going cool right now, so I think it'll work fine for sure. As a matter of fact, it's funny you mention how challenging how fast someone can beat a level in Sonic, because I was thinking of making that the next challenge over there (Genny version). Yeah, high scores, speed on levels, item collection (as in number of items like the number of coins in a level on Sonic or something), etc. Something I'm thinking of doing over there is other types of challenges that is related to games as well. Nothing difficult, but game related (i.e. rom graphics hacks). Something just to switch the flavor up and get everyone to learn a little and exchange hacks... just a fun thing. I've just been brainstorming

Maybe also the addition of cheats/hints... Not just level codes as such, but things like "in level 3 after the third tree backtrack and climb the wall to reach the invincibility" or something like that. Play-guides or something. A comparison of play styles and techniques....

I Believe we could have a debate club with 2 sides defending a game against another. For instance R-TYPE vs POWER STRIKE 2, each side (with 4/5 members would play the games reach the end of both games and build a case defending their game´s advantages. For instance Stan (Graphics),Anagrama (Sound) and Onyx (Replay Value), versus Jellycrystals, Tonto and me). The other members would vote in the end, and the one with the most votes would pass to the next round until we had decided wich game was the best plantformer, RPG...

Sorry to say but I don't agree with the debate club idea - it's not as "accessible" as the challenge idea, which anyone can take part in.
Debating takes a lot of preparation, whereas the challenge, anyone can pick up and play at any time for as long as they like. The forum events should be easily accessible to eveyone in order to keep people interested in the place. Debating would require considerable preparation - not everyone has time to be as involved. Game club for example is a good idea in how everyone can get involved - you don't even have to pick a game, you can just play the current choice with or without commenting about it on the forum.
Debating is only for more knowledgeable people, not everyone knows everything about every game, or has time to find out - it may put some members off getting involved. There is already a suggested number limit for teams (a sensible idea for a debate) - as above, everyone should be able to get involved no matter how much they know or how much time they have to dedicate to it.
I can see how a debate would benefit maybe 8 members on this forum, but we need to look at something for the entire membership.

I like Roth's suggestion for a weekly SMS game challenge. They are a lot of fun to do and you can sometimes discover how good you are at a game that you would probably normally never even try. I really enjoy competing in the challenges over at NESfiles (but mainly because I usually win them ).

how about something like a little knock out cup competition?
everyone picks say 5 games. then every week 2 random games will compete against eachother, and at the end we all vote on the best one?
it'd be a bit like having 2 games of the week but it also has a bit of the challenge element in there.
sounds a bit complicated but for example, the first week could be Tonto vs Dez.
T would pick one game, D would pick another, each would give a little introduction to them, then the rest of us all play the game for that week, at the end of it we all vote on our favourite.
Lets say we vote for T's game, that game then goes through to the next round.
Think of it like an FA Cup for SMS games
