Our big eared friend is due to come out of retirement for a special guest appearance in Sega Superstars Tennis: www.seganerds.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/sega-ads-003.jpgits due out in March for all the current consoles, will be interesting to see what alex looks like in 3D. And since the game is being made by the same group as the Virtua Tennis series, it ought to actually be a good game

Well I was thinking of getting that, now it's a must buy, and if Sega continue releasing these Mario style sports games we may see more from our heroes, Super Sonic Smash Brawl anyone, will Opa-Opa beat Wonderboy!?

You know Sonic is in the next Smash Bros game for Wii. I'm glad to see Sega hasn't forgotten about the Kidd, fingers crossed they decide to make a good game just for him. Sonics last few 3D outings have been poor, I think its time the old mascot made his comeback And damn it I'm going to want a Wii now!

Yep I love the Smash Bros games, but as I was a Sega kid I would prefer more Sega characters to Nintendo ones!

Sonics last few 3D outings have been poor, I think its time the old mascot made his comeback All the more reason to start making 2D platform games again This is a game I definately plan on getting if it gets a good score. I tend to like these types of games a lot more than the ones that try to mimic real life. I got a lot more enjoyment out of Mario Golf 64 than I did out of any Tiger Woods game. I plan on getting Mario Strikers Charged, and this one if it gets a decent rating. Heck, I might get it either way.

That footage looks great. I really like what they did with the worlds for the levels too. Some beautiful polygonal graphics that still maintain the original 2D charm of the classics. I'm definitely excited.

I like the animation it's good that they have managed to update it as well as keeping the original style, some characters get ruined when they go 3d.

Did anyone actually get this? I bought it cheap over the weekend, and man, what a fun retro experience. While I wish there were less Sonic characters and more from other franchises (Sonic, yes, Tails, okay, but Amy, Eggman and Shadow? excess) they still did their history proud here.
Notable characters that SHOULD have taken the Sonic franchise characters' place?
Alis Akira Bug
Oh well, what's here is nicely nostalgic and filled with fun game-specific challenges. There's a great Space Harrier world where you have to fire tennis balls at all the old familiar enemies (including the color-changing dragon boss!) and dodge mushrooms, and then there's a nice coastal atmosphere for an OutRun level. You get to take down zombies in the House of the Dead world, and even more fun is the target practice in a mock-up of level one from Virtua Cop in the Virtua Squad world. None of the worlds are the same, and there are great challenges in each.
Unfortunately the Alex Kidd and Golden Axe worlds don't even get their own franchise-specific court, but at least they thought to add Gilius and the Kidd as unlockable characters. Still, I would have rather these levels were fleshed out compared to, say, the Puyo Puyo world. What does that even have to do with Sega, anyway - the franchise was platform agnostic throughout its run, even if developed by the mostly Sega-friendly Compile.
The biggest joy was finally being able to play with the Kidd - he's actually probably the strongest player in the game, incredibly fast and full of power. Each character gets a special power-up they can unleash during a match, and Alex Kidd's is definitely best. It's based on the paper-rock-scissors of his previous games, and he is the only character that has more than one special, since he can pick either paper, rock or scissors for a total of three. Totally cool, and a nice tribute to 8-bit's #1 man. Alex also humorously says "I found the miracle ball!" after winning a match. Awesome.
While there are more heirlooms from the Dreamcast era compared to the 16-bit or even 8-bit, there is still much Sega love to be had here, and the gameplay is addicting enough to lend to several hours of fun. Considering how cheap it is to obtain now, I urge you all to give it a shot.
Sega's revived Golden Axe and Alien Syndrome recently, here's hoping Alex Kidd now will finally get the starring vehicle we've been asking for for almost 20 years now.
