Does nobody who bids on eBay ever read the auction page?
I'm just after selling a load of stuff off on eBay. I filled in on all my auctions that local people could pick up their item rather than have it posted. It seems now that nobody wants to pay the postage cost and have sent paypal payments with no account for postage costs when its obvious they don't live locally.
I don't really know how to deal with this. I sent one of the buyers a message saying he didn't include postage and packaging costs, he then sent me the P&P costs. But with two transactions on Paypal instead of just one its eating a good little bit of my funds. I've now sent the rest of the illiterate people messages saying they should cover the cost of the first paypal transaction, am I wrong to do this? It's really getting up my nose now as somebody won my "all three ps1 Tekken games" today for about £3 then didn't include any payment for postage.
Sorry for the rant. Ebay just gets on my nerves, I would think that if somebody sent me an invoice with either £0 postage to local pickup or £X to somewhere else I would be smart enough to include the fee.

I know why these people didnt pay postage, all your auctions when displayed in search results had Free written in the postage column. Only when you actually clicked open the link to see the auction page did you see that its only free when collecting in person.
But your right those bidders should take the time to look at the auction properly before bidding, i know i always do just incase the seller wants to charge extra for payapl or something like that.

I dont even offer local pick up at all unless its a really large lot. The chances of anyone wanting it and living really close to you are pretty slim. Any more than a mile or two travel and petrol to go pick it up is likely to be more than the postage.

Hmm, I get why that's frustrating - the amount of fees you end up being charged is absolutely rediculous. Given that paypal is actually an ebay company, you get charged for inserting the add, charged for adding things like reserve and bin, charged a final valuation fee, charged for someone paying you via paypal, and then charged if you withdraw anything less than £50!!!! It is all getting beyond a joke!

Yep its a right pain in the arse! Now another annoyance. A guy who paid today at 6PM wanted to make sure his item would be sent today! Are people really this dumb?

I completely agree that the whole ebay charges are way out of line. The probelm is theres not really any competetion to ebay. Its about time another auction website tried to challenge ebays throne, the only reason ebay is succesful is because the name is well known. If a big company got behind an auction site and pumped a ton of money into advertising, then they could take on ebay no problem. At the moment ebay can charge whatever the hell they like, because they know you dont really have any where else to sell you ritems online.

yeah, that's definately true, and I'd love to see somebody set up a good auction site where it was say set fees for items within a certain price range and THAT'S IT!!! No more hidden fees and add-ons. You'd think somebody with money and facilities to set it up would spot the gap in the market.

I dunno for sure - but I tell you one thing, if they actually created an auction site that works the same way as mercado livre here it would be good. Even though it is owned by ebay, it is a totally different method of working! Their feedback system is so much better too, you can't hold feedback ransom if you will (ie I'm waiting for you to leave me positive feedback before I decide what to write about you, and if you leave me a negative I'll leave you one too, even though you did nothing wrong!!!). The mercado livre feedback system is totally different and miles better.
