Hello there people. I thought I'd pose a question. Does anyone remember the first time the saw a video game at the arcades and how it felt? lol. Maybe some people don't remember these things, but I have a pretty good memory of certain things. The first game I saw was I believe a game called 'Battle of Atlantis' a right-scrolling underwater submarine shooter which I saw at a motor camp my family stayed at. I never got the play the game but I remember how exciting it was watching other people play and advance through the different levels, the changes in scenery the exciting sounds and hoping the player would get very far. lol. I remember kind of celebrating when I saw a guy get to a scene I had not seen before. lol
Anyhow does anyone how some good memories they want to share?

My mother worked in an arcade and that's probably how i got into video games.
I can't exaclty remember the first video game I played but I remember most of the games in the arcade. The video games with the gun on the cabinet sticks out for me - Operation Wolf and Line of Fire especially.

In Germany its forbidden to play arcade games if you're under 16 and you must be 18 or older to go in a arcade (like its a porn shop)..really bad But no problem for me I think the first game was either Bucky O'hare or Sunset Riders. The Graphic were really impressive at this time

Thats a crap law. Why does it exist? I don't see kids going out and assaulting people because they have played a beat em up.

Thats the main problem here in Germany. The Politics have a problem with computergames saying on the one hand thats kids stuff and on the other hand those games are to brutal for children. Thats why games like wolfenstein, doom or for example rambo 3 on the master system are banned here (altough i also think that children shouldn't play games like doom or mortal kombat). After the massacre in erfurt 2 years ago it got even worse and some politics planning to ban all games from germany, its really crazy. The same goes with horrormovies, nearly every movie is cut or banned.
On the other side nobody have problems with sex on tv or in commercials. Theres no problem showing sex on tv at the afternoon. But Computergames or Horrormovies are bad.

German TV is shocking compared to British tv yet no video games or horror movies are banned in the UK.

The only british thing i ever seen is the jungle show with katie price and some other unknown people, some time ago the same thing was on german tv and yes german tv is really worse compared to other countries With the games and movies: they sometimes exaggerate with it and even 20 year old games are banned. But some movies deserve to be banned, stuff like cannibal holocaust oder men behind the sun and some games to, i really don't know whats so cool on mortal kombat or soldier of fortune, thats just mindless, brutal games.

Haha yeah thats must be the reason i don't like those games ;D
No i really don't have a problem with fighting- or action games and i really like king of fighters. But i don't see any sense in those extreme violent games. I think this games are just made to shock older people and make young kids say "wow look at all those blood and the Gore".

I remember playing the first video game "Pong" in the early to mid seventies at the bowling alley, but the game that got me hooked was Donkey Kong at the Arcade. I guess that's why i like the Coleco because it came packed with Donkey Kong. I remember how i bought my SMS. I bought a NES with a football game and then took it back the next day because i didn't like the game. I saw the SMS and bought it with Great Football and thought it was better , so i kept the SMS and am glad i did. I also had an Atari 2600 and the best games for it were made by activision.

B
In Ames, there was a stand up race car machine when I was four, and it must have been Out Run. This was the first video game I ever played (besides Star Goose on the 8088 PC we had).
