I'm guessing that first ad was Canadian. The SMS box is definitely a Canadian version, and the presence of (I think) Stephen Dorff as the lead kid makes me think it was shot right after he did THE GATE here in Canada. Since PHANTASY STAR came out 1988, and THE GATE 1987, it seems very possible.
Still lots of different artwork, too bad it's so blurry.

Wow, that is THE commercial I remember from back in the day. That 'wait till they see Phantasy Star' brings back some memories.

Rocky is also different. The US version I have doesn't have the sunburst and title is in blue instead of red.
