When I was a kid I remember my parents getting me a copy of Out Run that was packaged with a control stick. I think that it was a blister pack but my memory is not what it used to be, so I could be wrong. Does anybody else remember this?

That's an interesting ad. Were they planning on releasing BMX Trial sans paddle? Looks to be that way. Also, really pushing the limits of creativity with that "Baseball" title.

Yeah, I doubt it was made. John would probably know actually because he probably wrote that ad. Don't forget, there were a number of things they were intending on releasing, including the paddle controller because Woody Pop was play-tested here before they decided to can it entirely. It's never mentioned in any of the Sega Team newsletters, so it was probably canned, but then again it could have been active for a bit and then shut down after only a few were made. Let me shoot him an email.
Edit: Sent. There are several things of issue in that ad, actually, and if he did indeed write it, which he probably did, he should know. Here are things I noticed:
1. Well, we already hit BMX, but yeah, it's there.
2. Out Run issue too.
3. The Monopoly picture there appears to be a pre-game screenshot created by Steve before they began actual coding of the game proper. He mentioned some issues with the process of programming it, including not being able to pull off what you see on that screen there without problems, so that's an earlier picture that was probably just being used to so what it COULD look like.
4. The Great Golf pictured is the Japanese version, the one we SHOULD have got.
5. Great Baseball is the Japanese card version, this means the NTSC version hadn't been put together yet, which is just a localized, slightly altered version of The Pro Yakyuu Pennant Race.

Mystery SOLVED:
Hi Stan, This was a Sears catalog and Sears wrote their own copy. I do not believe the Outrun/stick package was sold as one, although they may have bundled them together at purchase. Can't remember anything about the sports titles. Best, John

Monopoly looked pretty cool in that screenshot. Looking at it recently it must be one of the worst versions out there. The letters for the names are too big and look naff when they spill onto the next line.....dodgy scrolling, crude graphics and appalling sound.....can't have been a great seller......

Steve will reveal all to you, except for sales figures, when the interview is published... If you consider the number of copies, though, I think it sold pretty well initially.
