Good morning I joined yesterday and would like to say what a fantastic place you have here. The master system was my 1st console as a child previously having a Amstrad and Commodore 64. My parents gave me a choice of a mega drive or a master system. I have always wanted to start collecting and finally started last month. I have around 25 games and a console so far. Just been using ebay. Can anybody recommend anywhere else to further my newbie collection. Sorry should have said I'm from Scotland folks. Have a great day I am away to work lol.

Welcome to the forum! Why did you choose the master system over the megadrive? I dont think many kids would have done but still a good call lol You can always post wants here and you may get lucky. Galaxy sega group on facebook can also be good for picking up games especially bundles. What games have you picked up so far?

Back then I was young and didn't know the difference. My best friend told me he was getting a master system so we should have the same. in reality he was getting a mega drive and didn't want me having the same so he could appear superior. Anyway I quickly realised lots of my other friends had master systems and we had a great time playing and trading games. whilst this happened my ex best friend sat alone with his mega drive lol.

Owch! Sneaky little b*d 😁🤣 I remember having one of those annoying friends that had far too much money, always had the very latest consoles, games, gadgets and toys. He had the Megadrive / Mega CD at the time when most of us were stilling playing SMS and C64 games. It was annoying how much he used to brag about it, but at the same time I probably wouldn't have even see this stuff up-close if it wasn't for him. Then I remember my best friend who had no console getting an Atari 2600 for Christmas around 91 after he had asked for a SMS. Felt bad for that guy!

Yeah this kid was similar had the newest and best of everything. Then a few years later it appeared his parents were in so much debt and divorced. It was at this point I told him I had my old master system in the attic if he was struggling lol.

Great to see another Scottish SMS fan. 😁 There's more than few on here 😁. I'm from Glasgow but living South Lanarkshire at the moment. Living the tier 4 life give us plenty of time for SMS gaming at the moment! I recently restarted my SMS collection after selling some of it about 10 years ago, so everything old is new again to me. EBay is one place for sure, don't forget to look at Facebook marketplace, Gumtree and try looking at classifieds listings in European sites (like eBay kleinanzeigen - its I German but I use Google translate. It's good for some later releases more common in Germany) and of course theres various small retro gaming website stores like console passion, 8bitbeyond, consolemad, retrogear.co.uk. some of these websites don't seem to have caught up with recent price hikes, so worth checking out. One tip I would say at the start is it's probably easier and Cheaper to bulk buy console bundles. Good luck and feel free to drop me a message with any questions or just chat 👍

Small world I am up in Perth. Thanks for all the advice much appreciated. Just started collecting in January. Got a console and 12 game bundle from eBay. Since then I have purchased roughly 12 more games.
Looking forward to shops reopening and will visit Cex charity shops etc. As I work on the railway I can be in every Scottish city within 2 days so that may help.

Thats like asking for a ferrari and getting a robin reliant 🙈 i bet he was gutted! I actually owned one as a kid but it never got a look in because it was pretty crap compared to my sms.

Thanks everyone again for the welcome. I had been using the games list on the main page as a reference when buying games for the last few weeks. It wasn't until yesterday that I noticed there was a forum and quickly joined.

Welcome! If you want to join in on some discussions here are two threads that you can start on. Top 5 GamesCollection GoalsCan also recommend the High Score Club part of the forum, though maybe it's a bit pre-mature if you just got the console but could be fun in the future Off topic side note, you mentioned growing up with the C64, just curious what where your favourite games?

Ah, a fake Saints fan then? 🤣 Being originally from Paisley (now in Renfrew) and a St Mirren season ticket holder I think I'm pretty much legally obliged to say that anytime someone says they're from Perth... Welcome to the forum, a long history of great threads on here for you to read through!
