Do any of you go to lengths to improve the condition of the manuals for your games. My family find it funny when they see me with the ironing board out, going over creased manuals but I find it works well.
What about stickers on the manuals or the artwork, do you just leave them on or risk taking them off ? If you take them off what do you find works best for removing them.
The main reason I started this thread is that recently I finally picked up a copy of asterix and the great resuce, was disappointed with the game compared to the other two in the series but was extremely pleased with the condition of the game. It's fairly mint apart from the staples in the manual are completely corroded, I have a few games like this but they are easily replaceable.
So I'm tempted to take the staples out and replace them, have any off you done this without damaging the manual ?

Your best bet for stickers is to blast it with a hair dryer, but not too close. It should loosen the glue of the sticker and make it easy to remove. After that, you can take your time with something like a Magic Eraser and carefully rub off the remaining residue.

If your going to replace the staples I would swap one at a time, leaving one in while replacing the other so the manual doesn't fall apart. I'd remove them by hand unbending them, and put a new staple in and also fold it by hand using the original holes.

Ive been toying with the idea of changing the staples in my ultima books because they are a little corroded but i dont want to devalue them..

Hahaha it's crazy how we collectors think about this stuff. Honestly, from what I know about antiques, you're likely right if people start to really appraise these things in the future.

Do you use the stiff ones or the ones that are more like plastic wrapping? I've been considering this myself and have started using the stiff ones for my GG and GB games but not done the plastic cases like SMS and MD yet.

Ah, I think you mean the actual box protectors. I have some of those for my Nintendo games because they are cardboard but I do plan on getting some for my SMS and MD games. What I was referring to was specific sleeves just for the inserts. I got some that were custom made for Master System instruction manuals. I got them from a certain auction site but he has a website too: www.retrogamefreak.com/c-2474290/master-system-manual-sleeves/
