I was thinking.....
which are the most difficult bosses on SMS games ?
i thought about the Pirate that we face in Lord of the Sword, the Last boss of Line of Fire... but probably there are even harder ones that i am forgetting. Can someone remember any harder boss ?

Line of Fire isn't that hard when you work out the rhythm - your helicopter fires slightly to one side, so you can get a lot more hits in on the laser cannons from the correct side. Once you've taken out both cannons, you can sit safely to the side of the main turret while still hitting it, and just dodge up and down to avoid the shots from the mini fighters.
Scramble Spirits' stage 3 boss the "flying pancake" is a bit of a nightmare because of the homing shots. If you don't have at least one option plane to hand, you're in for a rough time - it generates giant balls (not making this up) that soak up bullets, so it's difficult to get many hits in without the extra firepower from the support planes.
Sonic 2's Robotnik fight always puts me on edge despite the number of times I've cleared the game. The timing you need is quite precise because a lot of the time the fireballs look like they've gone away but sweep back from off screen! Leave it too late and you can't get a hit in (or worse, die as he shoots out more) but jump the gun and die as one cuts back on screen. And he takes A LOT of hits to bring down. The whole "no Act 3 rings" in the first two SMS Sonic games means most of the later boss fights can be quite edgy but that one's far and away the worst!

Oh, the dragon on Wonder Boy in Monster land is pretty hard too. The last boss of "Wanted". and Mr. Big of Moonwalker should be in this list

Some good shouts with Sonic 2, Moonwalker, Shinobi, Chuck Rock and Fantasy Zone.
I actually find most of the bosses in Sonic 2 quite tricky. After Burner's last boss is tough! I'd also have to give mention to the last bosses in Lion King and Ninja Gaiden,

The Last boss on Wanted is a tricky bugger, really hard to hit him and not get hit by the projectiles at the same time, took me a fair few attempts to beat him! I can't remember which level it was now, possibly the 4th, but I found one of the bosses in Cloud Master an absoulte nightmare, come to think of it I don't think I ever managed to beat that game... There's probably loads more that should get mentioned but I'm getting forgetful in my old age

I recently played moonwalker And I must say that the final boss is extremely tough , compared to the rest of the levels in the game.
Another game I remember as a tough ending is Star Wars But I haven’t played it to the end for many many many years now, so I can’t say that I find it hard to complete today. But sure I must have a try soon, think it is a great game

The Sphinx in Wonder Boy in Monster Land if you don't answer the question right.. Yea he’s a killer! Took us ages as kids to figure out you had to get the letter from the bar and deliver it to his girlfriend. I love wonderboy in monsterland and have played it to death but ive only killed the sphinx without that letter once.

Double Hawk has some decent bosses. I've only completed it in two player, but it definitely feels like a two player. Whoever has the bombs needs to be attacking the boss, while the other player has to take down the distractions.
Sonic 2 though, the last one stumped me more, but Double Hawk has something uncommon, it's takes away a bit of the order, almost giving an analogue feel to digital. Hard but not the hardest, deserves a mention though.

My choices are Mr. X of Streets Of Rage II, and the Poltergeist of Laser Ghost.
