I was looking on Retro Collect and it says these 19 games are very rare
1) Alex Kidd In Miracle World (boxed) 2) Assault City: Light Phaser Version 3) Asterix And The Great Rescue 4) Buggy Run 5) California Games 2 6) Championship Hockey 7) Cheese Cat-astrophe Starring Speedy Gonzalez 8) Daffy Duck In Hollywood 9) Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story 10) Fire And Forget 2 11) Great Soccer 12) Home Alone 13) Masters Of Combat 14) Out Run 3-D 15) Power Strike 2 16) RoboCop3 17) Sega World Tournament Golf 18) Sonic Spinball 19) Ultimate Soccer
I understand that full set collector's would want to track down and buy all of these titles, but how many of these are recommended as good games for people like me that just want fun/good quality games in their collection. I like to buy good games over a large variety of retro and modern consoles and handhelds as well as the Master System.
If anyone here has played any or all of these games, let me know if there are any here that are worth owning or if any of them are proper rubbish or just very average and not worth bothering with. Thanks!

Alex Kidd in Miracle World is one of the top 3 games on the system (best IMO) Asterix is good OutRun is good Power Strike 2 is good, try Powerstrike 1 though to see if you will like it Sonic Spinball is also good.
Won't pass judgement on the others.

Assault City is brilliant if you like lightgun games. The bosses are a bit disappointing but the main stages are really hectic on the hardest difficulty. The art direction is really impressive and the music is superb. I couldn't imagine playing the gamepad version, which relegates you to a crosshair - lightgun is the way to go! Also, while it's very rare it tends not to command too high a price. I think it's around the £30-70 mark.
Power Strike 2 is one of the best console exclusive shoot 'em ups on any system, ever. There's a range of difficulties, including some crazy modes, and hands out enough extra lives that clearing it on normal is feasible with some practice. It's really colourful with some impressive boss fights, and moves at quite a pace without too much slowdown and flicker (there is a little bit when things get nuts). It's rare and tops £100 these days, but well worth it if you like the genre. Word of warning, it's designed for the PAL market so playing at 60 Hz results in it running a bit too fast to play properly, and the sped up music is weird.

Alex Kidd in miracle world is one of the best games on the system, Assault city is realy fun, it's one of my favourite light gun games. Asterix is decent but not as good as the other games in the series. Power Strike 2 is excellent, it's really expensive though but it's actually worth it's price tag, unlike Championship Hockey and Home Alone which are two of the worst games on the system

Alex Kidd is good, better to buy a system with it built in unless the price is right. Buggy run is a laugh but not worth the prices it commands. Championship hockey is terrible. Masters of combat is decent but it has been made unachievable by collectors paying over the odds. Home alone is erm....awful.
With the ms there are two options, go for out and out fun, or for desirable stuff

Championship hockey is really fun. Fun to see how such a crappy and uninteresting game managed to make it to shops

I didn't realize Alex Kidd was rare. Is that just a European thing? It seemed fairly common in the US.
As for the others, Assault City and Out Run 3D are fun if you like either of their particular hardware gimmicks.

A good way is to check Youtube for those games.
You should try to get a Master System with Alex Kidd built in, that´s much cheaper (somebody here mentioned that before). Asterix and the Great Rescue is not bad, but different compared to the other two Asterix games (you have to solve puzzles here). Buggy Run is fun, but short and for one player only (which sucks). Speedy, Daffy and Bruce Lee are worth to get if you find them cheap enough. Power Strike II is quite impressive from the technical point of view, take a look on Youtube for it.
You must decide all that for yourself mate, only Championship Hockey is not recommended^^

Honestly, I'd go the emulator route first and see if you actually like them (or watch Youtube vids like Gordman said).
I've saved a ton of money over the years by trying/watching stuff instead of making a blind buy.

You must decide all that for yourself mate, only Championship Hockey is not recommended^^ Actually owning an infamous game like that, that came at the very tail end of a console life span is worth owning. I don't think Championship Hockey is common at all, seeing how it was developed in 1992 by EA and put on hold, then being resurected by US Gold and released in 1995. Which is the big marvel in game values: The big price games are all the big known franchises: Mario, Sonic and all that and the few "so awful they're awesome games" like the Atari 2600 ET. In reality the true rare games are usually the under the radar games and sports titles. Alex Kidd in Miracle World is only rare if you want a boxed version since it was included in MS1 and MS2 Boxese

Other than that Smurfs game, what are the most expensive European SMS games anyway?
I know the US ones are Buster Douglas and Sonic.

I know the US ones are Buster Douglas and Sonic. If you're willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a sticker, it's up to you. Anyway, I think by far is Masters Of Combat and then Power Strike 2, Championship Hockey, Home Alone etc...
