The problem with kickstarter is that backers are the ones that put their money where the developers mouth is, if a game we are looking forward to is terrible then normally we wouldn't buy it, there is so much trust involved That's the whole point of Kickstarter. When you back someone, you believe in them and give them the chance to do something they wouldn't otherwise get to do. It's a big risk for developers too. If they promise something and fail to deliver, their names are mud.

And really, Shenmue is still a well known franchise with an army of Fanboys but there's a reason why the money intake slowed down considerably after the first 4-5 days. Fanboys?! Really?! Hey, I don't mind being called a fan because I actually am, of Shenmue and many (if not most) things Sega. However, it hasn't been accurate to call me a "boy" for literally decades now; but let's be honest when you call someone a "fanboy" what you're really claiming is that their opinions are too immature , emotional, or simply bandwagon jumping to be worthy of consideration, rather than being informed by decades of experience, as they are in my case. Name calling in lieu of an actual point always denotes a weak argument to me. Matt Groening in his excellent Life In Hell series used to come up with a Forbidden Words list every year: rainbarrel.aedileworks.com/word2000.gif I'm proposing we add "fanboy" to that list this year. Let's do away with this pernicious word, people! It's only used for mudslinging. BTW, the fact that it slowed is just indication that they set their initial goals too low. Had they said they needed 4 million to make it I have a feeling that they'd probably be close to doubling that by now too. Things slow down when people who would otherwise contribute see that it's "fully funded" and say, "Well, I guess they have it covered then...no need for my money."

We're down to the final day of the Kickstarter. Looks like Shenmue III is closing in on the record for most funds raised for a video game!

Very happy at that, quite impressive. They are still taking pledges after as well with Paypal so people will still be able to help out.

Most funded video game, and 6th most funded Kickstarter of all time! Congratulations to Suzuki-san. You deserve all that and, frankly, a lot more.
Now begins a long, long wait... but a lot shorter than the one that preceded it.
