I'll start with saying, I always make an attempt to look for past threads before I start I new one.Didn't find anything really related so.. Anyone ever give any thought to what games were re-released in the U.S. in either the blue or red cartridge format? Of course I have no idea what sales figures were like but it seems to me there may have been some more logical choices. I am surprised by Reggie Jackson Baseball, Black Belt, Rambo, and maybe even Enduro Racer making the list before say, Shinobi, WonderBoy, or Zillion. Can you imagine a beautiful blue Zillion cart? Just thought I'd throw that question out there. Dogfish Head beer + Sega = stupid questions Edit: How many here are after or have complete blue and/or red rerelease games? Anyone interested in starting I have a most loose blue carts and several boxes too. Pm me if interested.

It could be that they had already manufactured plenty of copies of Shinobi and other titles, and there wasn't a need to re-release them when it came time for reprints.

Yeah, I guess I didn't think about production numbers at all (or the possibility of inventory sitting in warehouse somewhere). It is kind of obvious for me to overlook. Just hung up on the day dream of a blue Shinobi cart, or say... a blue R-type? Again questionable choices if preexisting inventory was not a factor. Just my thoughts.

the main pattern (and as a brit with an interest in all things master system and american, i have analysed it) was when the game was released. some are obvious: enduro racer was an early game, 87 possibly? i think shinobi got a u.s release, albeit as a stack of european stock sent over, by the time 1990 rolled around, the master system had flopped stateside and the genesis was concentrated on

I am surprised by Reggie Jackson Baseball, Black Belt, Rambo, and maybe even Enduro Racer making the list before say, Shinobi, WonderBoy, or Zillion. Really? Reggie Jackson Baseball = Big name, Baseball (only really popular in North American and Japan) Rambo = A Huge Movie/Book Franchise with multiple other successful games and a cartoon show at the time Black Belt = All the Kung Fu, Karate stuff was enormously popular in the 80's Enduro Racer = I guess it was popular back then. Those choices make sense. Shinobi would make sense too. But Wonder Boy and Zillion where a bit too much out there for the casual gamer (i call them that way, people who might think about buying a game console, aren't really gamers and just look around) imagine them looking through a Toys R' US in the late 80's, what would more attract them? Rambo or Wonder Boy? Reggie Jackson Baseball or Zillion? It made sense to focus on things that catch the casual crowd by name value or theme

I remember reading the article some time ago...read it again to refresh my memory. All good and makes sense....but I can't help but feel there were some better choices. I understand the marketing decision to use the recognizable names of Rambo, Reggie Jackson, and Ghostbusters. Sega always wanted to rule the sports genre, so a sports game makes sense but come on! Buying any if those titles as a new SMS customer in 1990 is not going to have the most positive effect if they were trying to build their market/customer base. Wonderboy is a strong enough platformer to build interest in addition purchases... like 1989 release of WB3 dragons trap! Double Dragon and RJ Baseball were released in 1988 - as was Shinobi. So age of the game or original release date must not have much to do with it. Either WB or Shinobi should have had a good shot at helping the master system gain a few fans considering their arcade success/recognizability. Again, its just me crying over what could have been. Several additional beautifully blue rerelease carts!
