Remaking a game, or a clone of a popular title is a good way to start out and learn I reckon. That way you don't have to worry about spending time on game design as such as its all there to copy, but instead can concentrate on how to code a game for the system.
I certainly don't think its a waste of time, Shinobi is an awesome game anyway, and it would be great if this project keeps on going.

Cool. Got any other games? Not for sale, I mean; ones that you play. I've been playing my Xnoise pretty-much non-stop over the last few weeks... :) I also got Forza 3 with it, and Batman and Pure (neither of which I have played yet). Dirt 2 is very good, so I have mostly been playing that. I also got |Motorstorm 2 for xmas, and I don't have a PS3 either.... yet

You can recognise every sms game in the tiny small blurry ebay thumbnail photos
You have had dreams where you have gone into a games shop and found sms games that nobody has ever heard of before, then wake up dissapointed.
You have more than one sms console

I'm tempted to say Paper Boy, too... I've not got the highest score (I'm currently third), but it's so easy to get to the end -- even on hard -- without losing a life. Really?! I can't get to the end of the week on it :P Aladdin is another very easy one, its a very short game which is a pity as whats there is good but theres just not enough of it.

Ms Pacman is really annoying to play with the pad, so a control stick or other joystick is pretty much essential to enjoy the game.

The Codemasters games (Micro Machines, Fantastic Dizzy and Cosmic Spacehead) will not even get past the title screen on the Power Base Converter or SMS 1's, but they play perfectly on an SMS II. There is some visual glitching during the scrolling of Predator 2, but it's not totally distracting. Those are the only two examples that really stand out for me. Very interesting. I had no Idea you could'nt even actually play those on model 1. Thanks for the info grolt! They do play on a later SMS1, one with either Alex Kidd or Hangon & Safari Hunt built in. Those two models with the later VDP will play everything that the SMSII does.

The Tengen games for Master System are all properly licensed, the main unlicensed game that is most readily avaliable is 4 Pack all Action, which was made by HES and only sold in Australia. There were lots of unlicensed carts released in Korea (mostly hacks of games from the MSX computer, but some original sms games too), however these are pretty hard to get hold of, and as they are the same cart type as Japanese ones they don't work in a Western SMS console.

Have you remembered that with these old consoles that use Arieral/RF television cable, that you can't just plug them into the TV and play, but must tune in the televison and find the image.
