Well they would be limited to MS hardware. It does look pretty decent though. SMS Street Fighter 2 looks good as static screenshots, but it's a real dog of a game. We don't need anymore crappy Tectoy conversions...

Yep, SMS Street Fighter II is horrible^^ Glad to see that a few members are supporting my idea. Thanks to everyone who pushed WaterMelon to date. It seems that many people don´t think that it should work, which is a bit disappointing to be honest. But I don´t give up^^
Please note that I will be away for a while because of a surgical operation. Nothing too serious, but I need some time to recover.

Thread can be closed.
Many thanks to everyone who supported my project. But sadly, since I released my letter, absolutely NOBODY was interested. So I give it up now, which is a shame, but who cares..

Whilst I support the notion of a new Master System game and I think people's hearts are in the right place, creating a Master System game has to come from a team who are really 'in to' developing. If it's just a request put in to develop a game, the ideas won't be coming as naturally as they perhaps would otherwise, and the game may be forced and thus may not be very good.
It's the same as all these generic pop banks who are out nowadays who're all manufactured. There should be a good idea and good momentum behind that as a driving force to create the game.

Hi Gordman, Your intentions are good but i guess that your way is wrong. Who is Watermelon? with all my respect. Master system will complete 30 years. It's not possible that we don't will have something significant to day. Im trying contact Capcom. I would like that Capcom could port any megaman nes version ( id love if megaman 3). I would pay a good price for it. Why? It's a collector's edition. Im sure that other fans (yet genesis fans!) buy one relics like this. But spend Money with a common game? i don't know.

I completely agree with this. I would love nothing more than to see a new SMS game, but if it gets pressured out of developers, the result just won't be satisfactory.. at all... That being said, does this mean that there is absolutely no developer out there (or group of developers) who is interested in doing this ?

I think a number of factors stop this.
Game companies create games with the sight of reaching a minimum target for sales, and with old systems there's no real data on how many people own or even use systems like the Master System anymore.
Cost o the plastic casings must be quite expensive too- as well as the screws and boards whereas nowadays everything's on disc.
Is it possible there could be less developers out there nowadays who are skilled in the code of older games too? Programming for older consoles must require some skill that people aren't trained in nowadays. That means surely that time has to be spent becoming accustomed to the programming language etc.

Game companies create games with the sight of reaching a minimum target for sales, and with old systems there's no real data on how many people own or even use systems like the Master System anymore. Though i think, with all the retro hype that is still going strong, nowadays more people actually own a Master System (or at least a clone that can play the games) than back in the day. The development costs should be relatively minimal. I mean WaterMelon's Pier Solar was a big success, mostly because of all the "It's a new Mega Drive game after so many years!"-Hype. One has to evaluate how much interest there actually would be. Then do a small production run of cartridges/cases and just see how it goes. (After all, just like with Pier Solar (and it's half-assed "HD"-Remake), you can later on easily release it on all kinds of plattforms and make some good money) Though i think it's too late. Something like that would've easily worked in 2010 when 8-Bit retro-styled games where all the rage (Mega Man 10, Dark Void Zero, Super Meat Boy) I think a better thing would be a modern remake/sequel to a classic Master System game, kinda like Double Dragon Neon or DuckTales Remastered.

I really disagree with remakes/sequels to classic games and movies! I hate all these attempts as they show laziness and total lack of imagination! I have no problem with homebrew and suchlike games as they're made from "amateurs" (with different job) due to their passion or just for fun and I totally support these. But official attempts from people/companies in game or movie industry are unacceptable for me. By the way, probably not many people here are aware of the amazing AKIMW-2 created by Piranahman and Watain from SMS-France. Unfortunately can only be played on your computer, not real console, but you'll definitely enjoy it: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10035971/alex-kidd/Alex058/index.html
