Just curious. Is it always so dead around the forums here? I know the SMS isn't the newest system around, but I guess I'm used to places like AtariAge where members post every day. I just find it odd that most of the posts I've replied to, are not only replied to, but are also still the last posts of their respective sections.

Quality over quantity!
But you are right, this isn't a forum you have to visit 20 times a day but if you have questions or you want to go in discussion about something interesting, you'll get enough traffic anyways.

Exactly, it’s all about quality over quantity Comparing this forum to AtariAge isn’t particularly fair either as AtariAge deals with all things Atari whereas this forum focuses almost exclusively on the SMS. A fairer comparison would be the Atari 7800 discussions on AtariAge. If you’re looking for more SMS discussion you could always try SMSPower. I think another factor is that people who have been on the forums for years have already discussed most topics repeatedly. That was one of the reasons I felt Tournament was a good idea as it prompted members, new and old, to share their memories of the games we collect.

That's one of the reasons I'm not around here much these days (although not the main one). There's not a whole lot of new stuff going on in the SMS world. Well, that's not quite true: there's usually a new release or two over on SMS Power! and they're currently running their roughly-annual competitions. I think it's also that the SMS community is rather small. That's wild speculation (something in which I specialise), but I'm assuming other communities -- such as the aforementioned AtariAge -- are much larger.

I like it that the community is small. :) The smaller it is, the easier it is for me to collect at a decent price. ;D I had similar thoughts when I first joined and it annoyed me a bit that there wasn't as much activity on the site as other forums, but I have grown accustomed to it now and quite like it.

Good times, good times. There are seemingly a lot more SMS collectors out there who have yet to find this place. But yeah, I do like the fact that it's small - it means we arguably know each other a lot better than we would if there we thousands of us.

I think it can help maybe if the forum gets cleaned. I mean, there are thousands of threads here. The threads on the last sites got their last comment in 2004 or so. There are 3 or 4 Smurfs 2 threads ect ect ...
Especially the threads in the "games" section needs to be cleaned I think.

Well, one thing is the formatting. It's very hard to see new posts in threads. Nothing seems to really yell at you that anything has changed. Most forums either have a different color, or a very brightly colored, easily visible symbol or something. And no worries. I'm fine with it being slower, it's just something I noticed. I think it seems more dead here than it really is as it always looks like the main page hasn't changed at all. I have a lot of questions, many I've found answers by searching... but I just feel like I'm the only one making new threads sometimes, and it makes me feel a little awkward sometimes .

Most forums either have a different color, or a very brightly colored, easily visible symbol or something. Agreed. The contrast been between the two icons isn't ideal and takes me a fraction of a second to notice, but you get used to it. If not sure, I look closer or simply check the time of the latest post. There's an alternate theme for the forum which does marginally improve that, but it's far too bright for my liking. And no worries. I'm fine with it being slower, it's just something I noticed. I know that feeling, but it's fine. As long as the threads have a point and are in the right place, no-one will mind. And the more new threads created, the more chance of conversation. :)

I always use the new thread link, which makes it pretty obvious what threads have been updated. I can't even remember the last time I looked at the boards main index.

Yeah, I also just use the "New Topics" function. Very handy.

Sometimes this place will have a slow week or two then suddenly spring to life again. I like the slower pace of the posting here though, I sometimes have a browse on the Retro Gamer mag forum but I lose interest as there is just to many new posts to read through.
I used to be in your boat though and posting lots of new threads, some will be a waste of time and not get much responce but some will trigger real interest and go on for pages.
Like Aypok says if the thread has a point to it then go for it.

As already stated, Atari Age deals with many system and not just Atari-based, mind you. Plus, it has probably the most popular video game marketplace forum on the planet. We tend to go through periods of high traffic and slower traffic. Lots of it, to me, seems to deal with new site content and mods keeping things active, but yeah, quality is better. I used to post quite a bit. My main issue is getting the game pictures back up and I'm going to be defending soon (I hope) to finish my degree finally.
