I just bought the XBox version of Shenmue 2 and the GameCube version of Ikaruga. I would have liked the original Dreamcast versions but they're too expensive.

DC Ikaruga isn't that expensive anymore - should be able to get it for about £40. I picked up the 'cube version because it was PAL thus didn't have to muck around with the DC boot disc.
What's the going rate for DC Shenmue 2? It's not a major loss because the carry over from the first game is pretty lame unless you went OCD and collected ALL the figurines.

Yellow GG with green buttons and a blue start button? Was this created with the Brazilian market in mind? It looks pretty nice regardless

I just bought a Sega Saturn. It's a console I feel I need to experience, but at the same time I can't help feeling that it's a bit of a money trap.
I plan to make do with the PAL library for the time being and then mod the console to play bootlegs; the prices for games like Radiant Silvergun are insane.

In mint condition and have been saving for it for a while, but never buy anymore new games... This one came for sale for 15 Euro so can't go wrong there. Saving the points for something else then! Bought my first statue in a bit of a rush/excitement but it's a beauty Final Fantasy Static Arts Cloud. Not something I was going to get into, but I think I'm going to hold on to this one for a while. Cracking price too which was the reason why I bought it in the first place. Came with the box, inlay and straps. Quote girlfriend:

Picked up a Dreamcast Karaoke unit from YHJ - won it with a $5 bid lol. Of course I had to pay for shipping etc but it ended up being a crap load cheaper than the insanely overpriced ones on eBay. It's complete, everything is bagged and all in great condition - the software CD hasn't even been opened and is still shrinkwrapped. Doesn't look like it's seen much use, if any at all.

How the hell does that work? Just turns your DC into a karaoke machine you can put your own songs on or is it just like a weird Japanese version of SingStar from 1998?

I assumed the Dreamcast played CD+G discs, aka Karaoke discs, like the Mega CD and Saturn, but it seems that it doesn't. I think the Karaoke add-on lets you connect some microphones to the Dreamcast and plays a similar music based GD-rom.

It worked in a silly way - the included software CD was a passport to an online service where you could pay for a subscription and download songs. Songs could not be stored on the device or loaded from CD. It was only ever released in Japan and the servers went down in 2006. It was also compatible with the Dream Eye (camera) and would show a video of you singing if desired.
Aside from looking cool when docked to the console, it's just a lump of plastic, which is why I waited a long time for one to show up at a cheap price. Cool collectors item but not something I would spend big dollars on.

I'm not the most technical of people, but would there be anyway of someone now setting up a server of songs that would be compatible with this device?

I'm not the most technical of people, but would there be anyway of someone now setting up a server of songs that would be compatible with this device? No, not easily anyhow. The device doesn't do anything until it is online and receives instructions from the server, and since all the servers are down it's incredibly difficult to understand and reverse engineer the hardware. There's not many of them around either, so not much incentive for the hardware gurus to dive in.

So it's basically redundant nowadays, hence the price? I'm sure a server could be set up somehow, apparently people still play StarLancer and Phantasy Star online.
