Finally got round to buying a Retron 5 during the festive period. I know that it is essentially just an emulation system, however I'd been intrigued by it since I first heard it was being released. My impressions so far are good. I got one of the revised consoles so it's structurally strong and firm unlike some of the first batches which seemed to be a little bendy on top, and the cartridge slots don't seem to have a death grip like the common complaint seemed to be initially. I've had a lot of fun testing it with a variety of Master System, Megadrive, Genesis, NES, and GBA games over the past week or so. Altering the settings for each platform is a must if you want the optimum performance, and there are a lot of different things such as resolution, aspect ratio, filters etc. Plus, I don't agree with the majority of reviews that conclude that the controllers are poor. I personally think the reviewers were saying that out of snobbery / nostalgia, as my experience has been that the controllers are both comfortable and function well for all systems. That's all for now, more testing to do!

Some time ago I decided to go for a new CRT TV, since my small Samsung 15" inch CRT was getting too small for me, and the fact that the internal speakers have been defective ever since I got it, made me even more convinced it was time to find a new candidate. Yesterday I bought this fine Bang & Olufsen MX 4000, 21" CRT TV from a nice, local guy who was just about to move out of his current apartment. It only cost me 10£ and so far I'm really happy with it, apart from a good picture it has really nice built in speakers, so the sound quality is really good.

Wow and now they are a tenner on eBay amazing how things change. So what are the advantantages of CRT is it just phaser and 3D games? I use a modded sms2 via scart lead on my 60" LCD but I'm currently converting a room to a games room. Should I invest in something like this?

Apart from CRT being more suited to older consoles/computers (especially the really old ones like the 2600 and the Speccy), it just has a more authentic retro feel. Some people believe that if you're not using a CRT you might as well be using an emulator. I don't even have a modern LCD television. I'm still using a 14" TV/VCR combi for everything.

One purchase and one trade Firstly I am off this week as I am starting a new job next week, been catching up with a few friends and sorting through my games collection and wishlist. Traded with him and got lemmings 2 for the md, i already had it but without a manual so that one can be sold and I have a better copy now. Also spotted a ps1, boxed, for £20, spent another £6 on games, most valuable was jonah lomu rugby. I wont be buying anything now until probably the summer unless someone pretty much gives me a copy of smurfs 2

I was delighted to pick this up a while back, but due to concerns of how best to power it and also a lack of games I have only now got it up and working. This was fairly extreme when sega launched it back in the day, only released in Japan and in limited numbers means its now rare to find in good condition in the uk. Going forward I'm probably going to get a Japanese everdrive for it as its region locked and the games are pricey to import. But I'm really happy with it, I think the sega wondermega is one of the coolest looking consoles.

Looks awesome! yeah its a combined megadive and mega cd, think only 5000 got made. I think at the time you could buy a megadrive and a mega cd separate for less than a wondermega so it was only going to appeal to hardcore sega fans. I guess around the time it was released sega was starting to lose the plot and this is another example of that, but its still cool as hell.

It's the model you have that's estimated at 5000, not the system as a whole - but still a nice very rare pickup! Sega released the portable-sized Multi-Mega later on - so it shows they still didn't realise no-one wanted a Mega CD, much less one that could be a personal CD player!
Wondermega is a lovely looking bit of kit though! I remember it was hyped up un magazines at the time but it never made it to Europe. JP Mega Drive games can be picked up for reasonable prices, not sure about Mega CD games though.

Congrats ryanretro! I used to have a Wondermega and as you said looks really beautiful. I love its motorized disc door! Thanks gallos Cool which version did you have, its crazy their is 4 types of wondermega. I'm interested in how you powered it, I seen people say use the Japanese power supply with a step down transformer, others say a megadrive 2 power supply on its own is fine. Also did you import games or did you use a everdrive.
