Raiden Trad... I guess I've played that on the arcade, though I'm not entirely sure. 1942 is a good game, though the song gets irritating after a while. There is a remake on the Xbox Live Arcade that, to me, is as good as it gets. There is also 19XX on the arcades; don't know if it's because of the sexy vertical screen, but I always play a level or two of it when I swing by at a nearby arcade ;D
But sadly, those aren't really my thing. I'd rather go first person on Fury³ or Descent on the PC. There was a game, though, on the NES; I guess it was called Thundercade. In the game, you ride a bike with guns and blows up tanks and faeces. That was a great shmup, using good mechanics while avoiding the space cliché.

Not too much into the PC FPS's, but I am a HUGE fan of Half-Life 2. (Seriously...I have a poster on my wall of Dog tearing into a strider ;D ) I play it on the Xbox 360, though. Not sure I've heard of Thundercade, but it sounds a lot like Mach Rider, which is awesome. I'll have to look it up.

Yeah, I'd say it's like Mach Rider, but instead of being from a makeshift third person perspective, it's overhead, like most spaceship shmups, which means you also get a level of sorts, instead of riding on the same road forever while randomly killing buggies. You also get upgrades here and there which, from what I remember, transform into attachments to your bike in-game.
For PC FPS', I enjoy pretty much anything beside war games. Got already tired of shooting nazis and saving the USA again and again. I'm not really into Half-Life ² either. Even though the game is good, I can't stand the fact that I've played the first game, the second game, both of the expansion packs it's got and still don't know jack about that creepy G-man whom keeps interrupting the game here and there. Valve should explain their game already.

I just chalk it up to almost David-Lynch-levels of creepy, nonsensical weirdness, but an explanation would be nice...as would be a closing sequel to finish the damn story. -_- @tycho: Is Gleylancer any good?

The Mega Drive is a great system and one that I would like to get more into, but I'm going to be good... for now

Soleil is a great Zelda-clone. And if you are going after variations later, it also comes with German ingame text! I know this from experience buying what I though was the English version

My last package came in today, so here's everything thus far: Don't ever buy that version of After Burner. It's terrible. I don't know if there are any Dr. Who fans on here, but I recently started watching it & I'm hooked. I got this: 5" RC Dalek! ;D

I keep thinking about moving on to Famicom collecting after I finish up the MD set, time will tell Bit of SC-3000H action: Nice, and something else that is on the edge of my future collection possibilities radar at the moment! I've only ever played on one once at the sega8bit meet a few years back and was extremely impressed with Zaxxon, in fact I could have played it all day

It's pretty much arcade perfect, minus the difference in sound. The Famicom has some GREAT shmups (ex. Recca, Tetrastar the Fighter, and Crisis Force) but the best ones are very expensive, unless you get pirates & even those sometimes are pretty pricey! Honestly, a huge library of Famicom shmups are available for much cheaper on the NES...or, at least, they are here in the States.
