Shouldn't the games only be compared to each other though? This is a bit like not voting SMS Streets of Rage because the MD is better. It may be the worst in the series, but the question is... Outrun vs WB3. I understand what you mean, but sometimes you vote something because there aren't any better choices... I don't like WB3 and Out Run is a neutral game, so I decided to give it a chance...

I was thinking, it might be best to have some sort of seeding system. For instance, it would be a shame if Sonic and Alex Kidd in Miracle World were to come up against each other in this round and one of them would have to be eliminated so early. Perhaps use the top 10 games from the 'Top 100' article and keep them separated for as long as possible.

There was seeding in the first two rounds for that very reason, but I think leaving it random for the knockout stages makes things a bit more unpredictable (and more like a tournament).

At one time I tried to figure out a seeding system for round 3 aswell, but I never thought of using the top 100 as a seeding template for the matchups in this round as was done in the first. It would be a way, but it goes back to one of the first discussions we had about how to make the seeding process "fair". And as this is the first true head to head elimination round and seeing as the big games have the advantage on their side, it feels both fair and a bit more fun with the randomness factor.
It's a take or give situation, with seeds you can avoid the chance of a big game not making the quarterfinals but it also becomes more predictable.

Even when playing the SMS Out Run now it's hard not to see it like this. Is this a remix version of the song with just footage of the Outrun 2006 game or is this how it sounds on the Asian version? Because it's awesome Damn it...I really want to play Out Run now thanks to that video....

Outrun 2006 (has it really been 5 years!) is a great game and well worth playing if you can. Having said that people should not let that influence their vote and ensure Wonder Boy III goes through comfortably

I gotta say I'm really let down by Outrun. It doesn't ever give you the feeling of speed, it's like it's always just plodding along at a Space Harrier framerate. Compared to Hang-On it's unbearable. So why was Outrun so slow when it was a later released 2 Meg title versus Hang-On which was a launch title and only 32K? I'm sure it has to do with all the extra bells and whistles grapohics that Outrun has over Hang-On, hence the bigger cart size, but if all that is just gonna slow down the game why bother? Give me Hang-On and day when I want my flyin' along at 300+ KM/H rush.
Side note, why did all the old sega games have that standard top speed, I always found it a little silly that even at 100 KM/H the trees and bushes whatever just plod past you at a snails pace...

I can see the good and bad points for both of these games, but OutRun takes it for me quite easily. There seems to be lots of people using other versions of games to decide the outcome of their vote, seems wrong to me. The way I pick is quite simple: If I had both games in front of me, which would I put in the console?
That's why OutRun won for me. I do agree that WB3 is a great game, but very simple and not the sort of game I'm gonna playthrough over and over. OutRun on the other hand, whilst definitely flawed, will easily provide me with years more fun even though I've completed it countless times. Familiarity is a good thing when it comes to racing games, gives you the score chasing bug, whereas it hinders platformers and stuff as once you've played through and found all the hidden stuff there's little incentive to do so again.

I think the song in that video must be on the Japanese version? I was wondering about that too.
BTW I didn't use the update to make my decision. Just like Zillion vs Phantasy Star, I really had to think about just the first Phantasy Star game and not think of it as a series. I would have had to vote for Phantasy Star no questions asked if it was PS Series vs Zillion.
My point with the video was that's the kind of feeling you got while playing the original Out Run games and at the time all you had was the SMS Out Run or the arcade, well and maybe C64?
We all know WBIII is going to win and with that said I believe Out Run does not deserve to go out with 0 votes. I enjoyed WBIII but at least for me I know SMS Out Run would be higher on my list.
Just to be fair here's the video again and a SMS video.

I voted for Outrun, I think it's pretty decent and most importantly for the purposes of this poll... I enjoy it more than WB3. I have an Outrun cab so maybe I am biased.

Ok, now I start wondering if the people voting here are actually into the SMS or just passing by through linked sites and pressing whatever has the lowest votes. No offense, but 5 votes already for Out Run??? Even when playing the SMS Out Run now it's hard not to see it like this. I did not think people could see poll results until they had voted, regarding this video it looks good but i find power sliding very cheesy looking in racing games and avoid them when possible, that rap vocal is annoying too. I like Outrun on sms it is a good conversion and i do prefer dirving to anything even resembling an rpg in any form but i think WBIII is a good game and has more depth so it got my vote.

Do you prefer this then?
Edit: a stupid question to a thought I just had. Which way do you usually pick left or right on the crossroad on outrun?
I've noticed that I instinctively often pick the one on the right. Wonder if it's cause of driving on the right side of the road. For the people from Great Britain and meu2 in Ireland, have you noticed the same thing but on the left side? Or is this just a coincidence?
