I've had Choplifter since I got the SMS itself. As a kid I could never beat the Cavern stage. So I would just use the level select code that was printed in the back on the manual thanks to Professor Playor, and play the other stages. But generally it got lesser play than most games due to it's difficulty. Then one night, 10 years later, I'm 19, and I just had the urge to play Choplifter again for some reason. Somehow I clear the Caverns without losing a SINGLE life. I'm stoked, I can't believe it, so I keep playing and then I also beat the second Caverns. Got an end credits roll and was astounded. And to this day I'm pretty darn decent at it. Not sure how I got so good after NOT playing the game for at least 5 years. I do believe using my Sega Genesis 6-Button pad rather than the old SMS Pad or Joystick I used to have to use helped a bunch.

I think, if I had played the SMS version when I was a kid, this game would have annoyed me to no end. But I think with years of experience playing games, as an adult it's a lot more fun. It's a challenging game. I don't think it's too hard. It's never cheap. Personally, I'd rather have a challenging game that I have to strive to get better at, than an easy game I get bored with .

I've noticed the same thing, I like a good challenge in a game especially if I already enjoy the game. I mentioned in another thread that there is a new Choplifter HD game on 360 and PS3, you guys might be interested it's a good game.

Now I'm really thinking of picking it up.
