Why don't you have some vinyl stickers made up for the lettering, that way there won't be a large square outline. Or if you are skilful you could try and cut out a stencil and paint the lettering (This would be a lot of work though, ive done stuff like that before). Also like Aypok says you need to do something with that blank space, the triangle on its own looks odd. Having said all that I really like the design you came up with

Nice. I love these casemods!
My SMS is pretty rough looking as it is right now. If/when I get a second console, I might attempt a mod on the one I have now.

I'm not normally a fan of custom paint jobs on consoles, but that bubble bobble one is pretty funky.

What type of paint should I use? My local arts and crafts shop is AC Moore (http://www.acmoore.com/). I plan on repainting it a seafoam green colour (or something close to it).

Any spray paint will do the job really, preperation and good technique is key to getting good results. You can get specific paint for plastics, but I don't think this is needed for a sms console. Plastic paints have a flex additive, a SMS console isn't very flexible. Some paints need primer and laquer coats, some don't. It depends on what quality finish you want, and how much you want to spend.

I just want it looking presentable. I've seen some bad flat sprays of other consoles on the net. Since i am going to a lighter green I'm guessing a primer will be necessary and then where do I go from there? This will be a first time project for me so any advice no matter how basic is good.
Also, I will worry about printing up the decals and such later on.

For best results then use primer and lacquer coats. If you want a shiny finish then be sure to get a glossy finish paint and not a matte type. Spray painting can end up being pretty expensive to do - three cans of spray paint for a start if you do primer, colour and lacquer. Using a very fine grit sand paper to key the surface will help, and smooth out the years of wear and tear too. Using panel wipe/thinners to clean it up before spraying the primer coat will help it stick too.
There's plenty of guides to painting online, but basically take your time and don't rush it. Two to three coats for each paint should be enough, don't try and use too much for the first coat. Spray about 30cms away to prevent paint runs, and be sure to start spraying before you reach the intended surface.
Best to go to your local shop where you can buy paint, and have a look whats there and how much it costs. There will be instructions on the cans to help you out.
