Lot's of people have ideas, but it's the application of them that's tough. From what I've seen so far through others' work here, at SMSPower and also at Nintendo Age, it's best to look at available source code (even from other systems), and find a way to port something so you can see how a game works. Then, someday, if you're competent enough go from there to create an original game. Best to work from what's already been done, because technically, depending on what you want to do, lost of the basic mechanics have already been programmed in some capacity whether you're looking for a puzzle-type game with falling blocks, a pong-type game like Arkanoid, or a simple, blistering skill game like Kaboom!. Makes it a heck of a lot more difficult to just say, I want to make this kind of game and start to try it, from what I've seen no one has really come up with anything substantial this way. A friend of mine finished his first programming project not too long ago (a port of Frogger to the NES), which he did through using examples of the original code, and then simply applied them to NES Assembly.

I don't entirely agree with stan, but I wouldn't say he's out-and-out wrong. After all, it may work for some people.
Back to the original question: yeah, I've got a few. They all suck, though. They're either not as fun in the real world as they are in my mind, or they've already been done in one form or another. Having said that, I'm not an ideas man. :)

As I said, people have lots of ideas, or there are at least a few good ones out there. It's just that no one puts in the time to do anything because it takes so long. I'm still working on stuff to get information and sources to use more accessible, but it takes A LOT of time. I only have at the moment about one hour per day where I have time to read up on coding and such due to a PhD exam I have in October.

Port something, ideally something that works well with the system's capabilities and that isn't too demanding on content. Suggestions:
- Bomberman - Lumines - a Z-Machine interpreter - Trogdor! (or many other Videlectrix games)

Get at least 50% of the way through the actual code of the game before you consider anything else. Otherwise you'll end up with a shiny web site with loads of images of what the box art will look like, but no game. :)

Yeah, have to agree there. I'm ALL about a project like this, but make sure you've gone through what coding is like a little before you just jump into it. We wouldn't want to see a segafan video game coming out. Packaging and stuff is the easy part, I have some friends with contacts already because they've released a few unreleased games for the NES, and on here playgeneration has some mad skills with unreleased titles, he's done a number of impressive reproductions. That's the easy part.
Copyright is not something you really want to get into, nor is it something I would think you could really pull off for a dead system. Not sure about the actual legality of it, but if you're porting a game, best to just get cost out of it and don't push the issue, regardless of how old the title may be. Have you read Maxim's tutorial at all? Mine? Those are good places to start to learn what coding is all about. Once you start through them you'll have an idea if you want to continue. THEN we can talk boxes and art.

right just for record I know how to code a little but no expert
ok the reason I mentioned the other stuff was because I would like to get people who are not into coding involved but must admit what you said was right its the coding thats the hard part any way what did you think of my main Idea for meeting up online and talking about it

I mean, if you want to start something, fine, but I expect equal work out of it. I've been working on looking at porting a few simple titles, have sprites working, and a cool title screen, but that's it for now. It's kind of pointless to talk about game design if we don't have anyone to code it. If you're looking to update and port something like Kaboom!, that's doable, if you have this grand RPG in mind, you can pretty much forget it at the moment. The only users competent enough to do something like that don't have any time really. So what have you coded thus far? What about you, what are your ideas?

Only dreaming:
I could love to see a contra game and a ghostbusters game using characters of the cartoon series. Both games using no big sprites but doing great use of the color palette for the sega master system. For a completly original game Im lack of "ideas".
But Im falling off topic because this is not realistic. If I try that for myself could be taken me more than 20 years! lol!!! Somebody wish do it? (Joking!)

I had a vision last night of a game about a blue or purple hedgehog who had super sonic speed. I am going to call it Sonic...
