Hi... This is probably very late. Probably years late... BUT!
I bought a Master System 2 for old times sake off "Trade Me" in New Zealand (home sweet home), anyway. The guy said untested! and no cables.
I found a 9v 400 power supply and hooked it up... No power dead as a duck (common quote down here).
I pulled her open and looked at her innards. Firstly... the RF box was almost falling off. I soldered that back on, yippee.
Then talked to uncle Google. And after what seemed like years, I found an answer I wasn't expecting. The system requires a 9v negative center power supply.... positive is to the outside of the power plug thingy that goes into the console.
? Ah right!
So I chopped the cord to the power supply With the power supply not connected to the wall power outlet! stripped wires.... twisted the wires together, with the white stripe wire going to the black wire.... Used insulation tape for covering the twisted wires. Did the same with the other wires.
Remember this is temporary, just for testing purposes!..............
Plugged her in to the MS2 console then to the wall. Obviously with the RF out cable connected to the tv. Then tuned the channel in.
Bingo! She's all good. Up and running.
I now have a proper NEW power supply connected to her. With no tape or twisted wires.
When I want to play old school Master System games, I just smack her on the ass. Plug in the power, and my 1980's smile comes back to my face again.
So!
If you buy and old MS2 console..... check the power supply is good, and the correct one for the unit.
If it's a dead power supply, it won't go obviously.
If it's the wrong power supply..... it may not go.... Check the voltage polarity!
Happy gaming.
