Thought i'd share my new purchase as I have never seen one before. Onyx has a carboard packaged PAR cart but ive never seen a pic so i'm unsure if its the same.... Just for those of you who may not have one yet they ususally come packaged as below or the same but black instead of red cover, in either english or german.

I've seen the carboard one. I'm not sure why they did that, perhaps to save money. The NES version was released in this form as well.

Im pretty sure the red design is later, and since the card box uses the black design that would suggest it was earlier.
But, i would expect they used card boxes last, when they had run out of plastic cases, and just used that design on the sticker anyway.

What's interesting is that, as far as I know, carboard boxes like that were actually more expensive than plastic ones. When Sega was reworking Genesis packaging here they went with carboard eventually, which everyone thought was cheaper, when it actually wasn't. Plus, PAR would put these things in there with foam and a bunch of crap, so possibly it came out earlier and then they switched to plastic.

But those genesis boxes were probably more expensive because each one had to be individually printed on, rather than one type of plastic case that any insert could go in.
That action replay box is blatently a standard box, not specially made for the purpose, with a sticker stuck on the top
