I have recently acquired a SMS, and i have spent a good amount of time collecting a few games and trying to do research, with little success i have 4 games two controllers a phaser but not av hook up and no AC ADAPTER...
I understand that the genesis av plugs work but does any one know if the AC adapter works or will it fry the SMS???

The Genesis adaptor is actually 10V whereas the SMS is 9V, that's the output. The input is the same except for one extra Watt on the Genesis adaptor. It's higher, which is risky, even though it's not that much higher. It may not be a good idea. You can use an SMS adaptor on a Genesis no problem, however. You can get replacement adaptors at Radio Shack for generally cheap.

The SMS has an internal voltage regulator, and can take anything up to about 12 volts. Make sure that the amps is equal to or exceeding the amps stated on the underside of the SMS, too little amps wont power it, but more amps is good as it will only draw what it needs.
Hope this helps

well i'm from the US the actual output for the genesis 1 ac adapter i have is 9v.
Here are all the specs
Genesis 1 AC Adapter:
120v, 60Hz, 17 Watts, 1.15 amps, 9v
What i need according to original master system specs is:
120v, 60Hz, 15Watts, .85 amps, 9v
if the amps don't matter... then what about the watts?

It will work, trust me, you can use any sega power adaptor with the right tip on the Master System, I use a Megadrive 1 power supply on mine
