I've been collecting SMS games for a while and very occasionaly you see a console for sale which just plain got me to wonder...
We all know SEGA put out many variations of the SMS console. Meaning the only only way to tell them apart is to know what game is built in. I have 2 model 1s meaning the one with the game card port. One has Hang On while the other has the Snail Maze game. Is either of these are considered either hard to find or rare...just wondering.

Not too sure if any console could be considered rare, but i think the hardest one to find would be the original SMS with no game built in (except the hidden maze game)
When switched on i think it says somthing like "thank you for choosing sega - please enter your game cartridge and press the power button" i honestly can't remember though. This is what my first master system did and was packaged with Hangon/Astro Warrior as a loose cart.

The NTSC Sega Scope system is generally pretty dang hard to find. The one with Missile Defense 3-D built-in has to be the most difficult to find of the us one. Consider the fact that some Sega Scope systems have Missile Defense 3-D as a separate cartridge, not built-in.

Isn't the Snail Maze a secret game? Myself I have the "Master System +" version with Hang-On & Safari Hunt, and you can start the snail game by holding certain buttons during the title screen.

Actually I did not know of the Snail maze game until it was featured in an issue of EGM

Ok, at the risk of confusing myself as well as everybody else. Can anyone confirm that Alex Kidd IMW was built into Master system Mk1's on two different occasions? One where the box said "featuring arcade hit alex kidd in miracle world" and featured a few different scenes from the game (I think this is the later version) but also one where there's just a picture of Alex kidd punching the octupus (if my memory serves me correctly).
Am I right with this, or way off the mark?

What about The Lion King pack in? Seeing the game came out late '94 it must be pretty hard to get hold off. I'm guessing that it was a pack in game like The Jungle Book and not built in. My illusions are shattered!

That means that all those packaging and built-in games variations have to be listed

It's not Chinese actually, technically it's "Asian," more specifically Hong Kong, where they speak Chinese but aren't really Chinese.

It'd be pretty cool to have a listing of as many different hardware bundles as possible - I know there's tons of slight variations. We could start with the bundles that people here own, and expand on it wherever possible.

I’ve had loads of box variations but nothing spectacular I guess I could offer the German system I have? I don’t think there’s many of them floating about Also is there anywhere I can see the Chinese set bock got?
