Not a bad idea, but for people using the "view last 10 posts" function, this would end in seeing almost only the sale threads which would sux Btw, why doesn't the forum have the standard phpbb "view posts since last visit" function ?

I like the idea of searching for the item but I think there would be far too many posts in the section and for the seller to keep up to what is sold, what is live and the time it would take to make hundreds of different posts would make it not worth bothering.
If I made a post 'Kiff's Sale/ Trade List' and listed every item with a price at the side that would be far easier to maintain. I am sure you can search 'title & description' also, so if you search this way and it brings up my post you would know that it was in my shop.

Yeah i think 1 big post for each persons games would be best. then you can edit with 'pending' or just deleate and add when appropriate. would be really easy to maintain, and if you decide to list an item on ebay anyway you could just add a link to the auction.

Would it be worth us buying a site and running a retro game only, less fees version of ebay?

Would it be worth us buying a site and running a retro game only, less fees version of ebay? Probably not - videogameauctions.com didn't exactly set the world on fire. The sad fact is that eBay can basically charge what they want because they have a stranglehold on the market. No other auction site will have a look in unless they persuade significant numbers of buyers and sellers to switch, which simply won't happen unless they can offer substantial benefits to both sellers and buyers - it's easy to make sellers switch, but nothing will get sold without the buyers, and they're generally quite happy with eBay.

Very true - ebay is great for buyers, and those who don't sell on there generally don't have a clue how expensive it is to do. I wonder how long ebay can get away with increasing fees before really pissing people off, after all with out sellers there's nothing for anyone to buy. Sadly so many new people start selling on there without any idea of the fees, that even if old sellers leave new ones take their place.
Oh and making an auction site is far easier said than done.

Yeah, EBay is a great site for buying and I, like most people probably look there before anywhere else but when it comes to selling its a different matter.
As for setting up an auction site. It we be too much hard work thats why I had the idea of integrating it into the forum. This way the only preson who has anything to do is the person who is running there own 'shop'. and the maintenance on this would be minimal.
I could have made a post in the wanted/trade section but I thought if we keep it all in one place then people instantly know where to look for what they need.

Hmmmm, perhaps if we could put together a database with a list of games/accessories and so forth, and then have a list of how many are available, condition, what they come with and so forth it may be a good idea. It would be tough to keep up with what everyone has. Can't really think right now, so I need to mill over this some more.

How about having it more like PLaygens and Kiff's store? The way they have a pic and a price is good also that way it would save millions of wasted pages, just remove it when its done.

i think this is massivley overcomplicating it. all it needs to be is a new section on the forum for member shops. as simple as that, each member can please them selves how thay arrange/ list/ display there wears. i'm forseeing a 'bump' fest in that area though, lol.

Exactly just keep it simple, a list of games you have avaliable, with photos of them if you wanted to. And instead of filling the post with replies just edit the list when you have to. And dont fill the posts up with pointless "I PM'd you" messages!
And you wouldnt have to put bump replies in either - just modify the title of your post with the date you have made any change to your list.

Am I missing something, or could this all not be done already by starting a thread in the Wants & Trades forum?

Am I missing something, or could this all not be done already by starting a thread in the Wants & Trades forum? it could, but the point was that the threads would quicky get lost in the exsisting wants/ trades section, so we thought best to have a new section just for a few members shops. even if just 10 people made use of it i think it would be a good idea. i'd deffintly use it, if people put dates in the heading of last time it was updated it would be really easy just to check it out each day for new stuff
