There are some guidelines posted on there before you submit your review, unless they're not working now.

I completely missed that every single time I wrote a review - jesus, it's right there too - sorry, man, my bad.

I did a couple a while ago, and now I'm gradually putting my opinions down (I wrote some bare bones reviews as a distraction from my PhD thesis a year and a bit ago). Including what will probably be seen as a controversial Alex Kidd in Miracle World review.

Just put it up. That was pretty scathing! But, I have to say, I agree with most of the points. It's a decent game, but I don't think it's as polished as some other platformers. The part that always got to me was the button reversal that they admittingly did on purpose to try to be different. Just keep them natural, okay guys?

" I also challenge anyone to get the cash bags which are placed immediately below a block when you're in a helicopter." Its fairly easy to get the cash below blocks, I do it all the time! Mind you the helicopter is weaker on the first level you use it (the water one), on the later level its much harder to crash and you can easily collect all the money then!. I don't agree with the on foot controls critism totally either, yes you need to be accurate, but I can dart around levels as fast as sonic! Some sms games which appear to have sloppy controls actually don't at all, its the loose sms control pad thats often to blame. Its not a totally perfect game sure, for instance the janken matches are an aquired taste, later castle levels are a bit annoying at times. But I think some people are too hard on it, comparing it with much later released platform games. Miracle World came out in 1986 (the fact most people played it built into a smsII hides that fact), it was one of the earliest side scrolling platform games, the amount of ideas and variation in the game is definitly impressive, you'd have to be a bit wrong in the end not to enjoy playing at least some of it!

Interesting review Transatlantic Foe. Nice to see you're not a sheep and dont just agree with the crowd. I however think AKIMW is an absolute classic but you do make a good point about the collision detection. I think it's workable around the merman and octopus, but when fighting Janken it's a bloody nightmare and you need a good amount of lives to beat him.
p.s. You DONT have to go through the underwater spike room in the red castle. If I remember rightly, you can bypass it by using your cane in an earlier room and the fly to a ladder in the top right of the screen giving you a different route to Janken.

AND if by magic (ok more by coincidence) I read Ask Proffessor Player on Sega8bit.com and there's a video of how to dodge the room of spikes. That man's a legend.

I haven't actually played the game long enough lately to try the route around the underwater spike room. Last time I played it I'd forgotten the sequence for the Janken matches, so losing lives at random for those that combined with getting annoyed with the collision detection meant I stuck a cart in and played that instead.
I'd agree it's good for its age though, but also shows they probably tried to be too clever and should've focused on the basics before trying to tart it up.

The spikes in the water is ridiculously easy. You don't even have to "try".

Ah Mr Foe, you don't need to memorise the janken matches because you can pick up the Telepathy ball in the cave so the only janken match you have to memorise is the first one.
AKIMW is flawed but still fantastic and I love the janken matches. Shinobi World however, is far more overrated and too easy in my opinion. Alex Kidd still rules over Sonic.

Oooooof, not sure about that Sonic comment there. When it comes to the first Sonic game and Miracle World, I'd choose the former in a heartbeat because it's nearly perfect. For a Master System title it blows pretty much every other platformer out of the water, including Miracle. I find Shinobi World a lot better and more fluid, but it is lacking. Needed some more gameplay features, power-ups, whatever, as well as extending the game. I always wondered why they made it so damn short.

Right I'm going to say something controversial now - so brace yourself - I don't think Sonic is that good. I cant explain why Alex Kidd is better specifically but it just feels like a more special game. It's not that Sonic is a bad game, it's OK, but it hasn't got that certain something. I feel the same for The Ninja and Cloud Master - they're not the best looking or playable games but they have that something extra to them to put them above the norm. I know that a fluffy reason but it's the best I can do. I would suggest a vote but I think I know the result already.

Ah Mr Foe, you don't need to memorise the janken matches because you can pick up the Telepathy ball in the cave so the only janken match you have to memorise is the first one. It makes it slightly less random but they frequently change their minds right at the last minute, which is bloody annoying! Sonic got progressively worse as they tried to make it as close to the Mega Drive version as possible, then even started mucking about with the 16-bit ones. Sonic Advance 1 and 2 are seriously awful - huge levels with bits you can't get to if you make one tiny mistake. And if you want the emeralds you've got to hunt out these impossible to reach bits just to get into the special stages - which themselves make the 3D bits in Thunder Blade seem playable. After Sonic 2, Sonic Adventure was the next Sonic game I really enjoyed to the same degree (if not more, to be honest).

Just submitted a review of Addams Family as I noticed there wasn't one in the database and I've just spent the last few hours of my life devoted to completing it (the game, not the review ). Hope you enjoy it . I'm having an SMS gaming marathon at the moment and I'm gonna be playing some of the games that often get overlooked so I'll write some more reviews if I notice there isn't one in the database for any of the games.
